Wires connecting with the grid should be kept away from the front of the panel and from points that connect with the ground, otherwise When the hand nears the dial a capacity effect will be introduced that will cause howls. Wires should run at right angles whereever possible and especially the plate and grid wires, if it is necessary for them to cross each other. Rigid wire should be used, because flexible wire Is likely to sag or swing a little if the eet is jarred and tuning will be disturbed. The wire does not have to be covered with insulation. All joints must be clean, firm and soldered. Battery Lore The condition of the alkaline battery is testld by a voltmeter and not by a hydrometer. When fully charged, each cell has a potential of 1.4 volts and drops during its use to 1.2 volts.. Solder should be flowed on a joint and not brushed on.

RADIO OPERATOR WILL BE COOK Shenandoah to Have Electrical Stove. /WASHINGTON. March s.—Radio operators have been called upon to perform- many queer tasks, but perhaps that which will be assigned to the operator of the Shenandoah in the near future. It will be the Job of running the cook stove. Os course, the operator will not actually do the cooking. But an aerial stove, operated by electricity furnished by the radio generator, will soon be Installed on the giant dirigible, and the operator will do the necessary switching to furnish the Juice. An automatic cut-off is provided which cuts off the current to the stove when the radio, which requires all the power available, is being used. With the stove the crew of the Shenandoah may look forward to eating meals while a mile In the air fully equal to their regular fare on the ground. Before the stove was designed coffee heated over the engine exhausts constituted the only hot article of diet on their menu. Merely chipping the surface of a crystal will present anew- surface and give virtually anew mineral.
