LETTER FROM SALLY ATHERTON TO LESLIE PRESCOTT, CONTINUED. I am sure, - Leslie dear, that I know you well enough that you won't be annoyed at me for writing you like this. You have always known that I could not take any maxi seriously for long, not even your husband, and I think perhaps that that was the reason why Sain and I were not happy. A man gets very peevish when you don't take him seriously. If h® thinks you see through his IfttJs subterfuges, he feels greatly hurt Instead of proud that he is married to a clever woman. So it’s a boy. Good for you, dear, I was hoping all along that it would be a boy. A mother has so much more to worry about with girls and whatever he might say ‘’himself" he Is immensely proud of you and the baby. Says they don't any better than the both of you. I think, perhaps, dear. I am more envious of you than I am of the vamp person. Indeed, tonight as I am writing to you It seems to me that I am neither one nor the other. I seem to be one of those females that, like Mohammed’s coffin, is forever suspended between heaven and earth. Once Tn a while I drop down with a thud, but I never have yet succeeded In bobbing quite haclt to that heaven which the vamplsh ladies sometimes attain and which you, dear, should always have, for you deserve It. I hope you will he coming home very soon, for between you and me I don’t dare leave these two men without some woman to take care of them and J have got to get away myself for a little while. Things have been too strenuous for even me lately. I think I shall go out to California and see Bee and for a month live the quiet life of Hollywood. After what I have been through with this last combination of male asslnlnlty and deadly femininity. I tell you I am all In. You will he glad to know, dear, that Mr. Prescott has gene to work with new vigor at the mills. He seems to everything now Is going to be all right and he certalnlv is making things hum. 7 am q life proud of him and 7 know you are.

Dear. dear. Leolle, T am so happy that everythin* is all right with you and that you hare a baby to bring you Joy and happiness. The other day I watched one of the women bringing the lunch to “her man” with a hahv at her breast. Husband Takes Over Wife's Job for Day

“Well, it’s been a hard day,” sighs Mr. Mann wearily, as he slips into his house coat and easv slippers, sinks into the most comfortable chair in the house, and picks up his newspaper. ‘‘And what have you been doing, my dear?” He turns wkh a patronizing smile to his wife.

"Oh, just the usual thing,” she replies, as she digs into the darning basket. The "usual thing”: Taking care of three growing children, in itself a full-time job; cleaning the house; getting breakfast, luncheon and dinner, and washing the dishes; answering the telephone; preparing a dainty dish for a sick neighbor; patching and darning, perhaps even sewing for the children or herself; checking up on household expenses and figuring how they can be cut down, etc., etc. And now that evening is here and the children are In bed, she can finish her darning. After that, if she la not too tired, she may read for an hour. But her Job is not over for the day. Her ear Is ever alert for a sound from the children. Even while she sleeps, she will be on the job. And her husband smiles patronizingly as she tells him she has been doing the "usual thing!” One husband learned the other day what the “usual thing” means. He wants other men to know, too: Severe ‘Training’ Dear Martha Lee: You got a lot of letter* from discontented wires. Let me sinr a little song about a contented oneana what she goes through. I know. I subbed for her the other day. It was Sunday. She wae ill. So were the three children. VThat happened will not be news to thousands of your women readers. But there ought to be some pointers for ' us Ivitness. brothers, the tale of the husband who subbed a day for Friend Wife: Dp at 7:30 a. m. Fired furnace. Warmed son’s milk. Fed him. Dressed daughter. Tried to make wife comfortable. Started breakfast. Percolator boiled over. Rolls almost burned in oven. Gave son and daughter graham crack*ra to stave off starvation. Jiggled up furnace again. finally got breakfast on table. Devoured considerable between periods of Chair Told daughter to read the funny paper. Started to prepare son's milk. Tied son in high chnlr Bathed son. ©are him bottle of milk. Pat him on front porch in baby buggy. Started to give daughter bath, ©lanced out window at eon. He was trying to fall out of buggy Brought him In and turned him loose in living room. Completed daughters bath; dressed her. Sent her outdoors. Two hours of steady labor cleaning house. Decided we'd eat out at neighborhood restaurant. Necessary to clean up self. Emerged three-<tuarters of an hour Inter spick and span. Son and daughter had wreaked havoc tn living-room. Took an hour, almost, to straighten room and them up. Left son with neighbor while daughter and I ate at restaurant. Home. Undress"d children. Put them to bed. 8 P M.—Sank into chair utterly exhausted. Ever try it. brother? You should. Can't help believing Friend Wife's capable of holding down a SIO,OOO a year job where mastery of detail is essential. Wife Exasperated Miss Lee: Could you give me some advice as to how to stop a woman who calls on the telephone for my husband when she knows he Is not home, thinking I will quarrel with him? I know she has broken up homes with this sort of thing, and I know m husband Is a good, true man. Her husband and mine worked together several years ago and she tried th*n to get in with my husband, but failed completely, and now she U doing thin for spite. My husband says if she does not stop railing he intends to notify the. police. 1 hate to see her or any one else get into trouble, although I do want this stopped, so would von advise me to let him go ahead and nave her arrested? As there is no law against telephoning whomever you may wish. I don’t helieve you could have the woman arrested on that ground. I’d suggest that' you hang up as soon as you hear her voice. It may take time, but she will grow weary eventually. Such a Sheik Dear Misa Lee: 1 am 17 yeara old and am allowed to have dates I am not bo - struck, but am crazy about a boy my own age I '-annot atop thinking of him. Every girl I ask about him says. “Oh. I am just crazy about Mm. 1 ’ He tells me he is crazy about me. and he tells the rest of the girls the same thing. Please tell me how I could attrack
