Further changes In rating methods and United States Veteran Burea rulings in the interest of disabled veterans are being sought by the American Legion, it has been announced at rehabilitation headquarters in Washington, I>. C. It has been brought to light that bureau rules do not permit payment of compensation for injuries disabling to a degree , less than 10 per cent, although the claimant may have a number of such ailments. The change sought would permit many men in hospitals for treatment of minor disabilities to be paid hospital compensation in full. The American Legion Auxiliary and other patriotic organizations of Gary, Ind., welcomed 237 new citizens at a "new American citizenship” reception. Certificates of naturalization were presented to the new citizens. Mrs. J. E. Barcus, poppy chairman for Indiana, urges the units to send in their orders early, before the supply is exhausted. Popples may be had through department headquarters for $22.50 a thousand, a saving over the price of former years. The American Legion essay contest, which opened Feb. 1, will end June 1. The subject is “Why Has the American Legion, an Organization of Veterans of the World War, Dedicated Itself, First of All, to Uphold and Defend the Constittuion of the United States of America?” First prize will be $750; second, SSOO, and third, $250. First prize in each State will be a silver medal;
