FLUCTUATIONS OF WEATHER AFFECT STATE HAYS

Director Says Restrictions May Follow Many Changes. Freezes, thaws, snows and rains have put State highways in such shape that it may be necessary to limit traffic on some in order to prevent serious damage, John D. Williams, highway director, said today in the weekly bulletin. Breaks, and weak spots have been reported on a number of roads. A 500-foot stretch of State Rd. 1 is closed to heavy traffic south of Franklin. Road conditions No. 1 (Nc-w Albany. Indianapolis. South Bend. Michigan line) —Pavement from Indianapolis to -Peru. Detour seven miles north of Kokomo account of bridge repair. (South of Indianapolis bus and heavy truck traffic is temporarily prohibited from using: 500-foot stretch south of Franklin. Old gravel road is closed to busses and trucks between Orothersviile and Scottsburg. Light traffic going through.) Turn right at comer of Tipton and O'Brien Sts., Seymour, following marked detour via Chestnut Ridge coming out on No. 1 at seven miles north of Oothersville. Parts of this detour is rough. No. 6 (Madison. Greensirorgh, Indianapolis. Lafayette. Oxford) —Pavement between Indianapolis and Shelbyville with but two detours around bridge construction. one of which is very poor. Shelbyville to Indianapolis traffic can avoid this detour—passable in dry weather—by taking county road from Shelbyville to Fountamtown. thence on No. 39 to Indianapolis. Use pavement from Indianapolis to three and seven-tenths miles north of Lebanon, thence over short detour back to pavement. Detour at six miles north of Lebanon to west through Thomtown returning to No. 8 at three miles north of Thorn town. Short detour to east at four miles north of Thomtowt. This last is impassable in thawing weather, so Lebanon to Lafayette traffic should take 44 from Lebanon via Frankfort to Rossville, thence on 29 to Lafayette No. 13 (Vincennes. Spencer, Martinsville, Indianapolis—Drive slow over new HU at Fish Creek four miles south of Freedom. Bad break between Centerton and Martinsville—one-way traffic only. No. 23 (English. Paoli. Mitchell. Bedford. Bloomington. Martinsville, Indianapolis.) Pavement between Indianapolis and Martinsville with one detour and one run-around. Between Paoli, and English is seventeen miles of earth road impassable to autos at this time. Avoid road south of Grantsburg account of construction.
