With the Legion Auxiliary in Indiana By CLAIRE PALMER THURSTON
The first pledge of the American from an outside post was received when William B. Boggs, commander of the post in Panama, cabled national headquarters the department would give $2,500. The action was purely voluntary. A committee will be organized in each of the thirteen Congressional Districts in Indiana. Dick and Harry, a couple of stalwart fire horses, who recently lost their jobs on the fire department in Cape May, N. J., were taken charge of by the American Legion post and a home with light work was found for them at one of the New Jersey State convalescent homes. A Christmas tree farm will be started near Maysville, Pa., by American Legion members who are securing trees from the State. Boy Scouts will cooperate by caring for the trees for eight years, when they will be cut down. Enough trees will be left to make timber. Miss Margaret Strycker, World War nurse, who ( served five years overseas and has been decorated by two foreign governments, was elected commander of the Jane A. Delano Nurse’s post of the American Legion in Buffalo, N. Y. One of the most important amendments to the World War veteran act which the American Legion is trying to secure at the present session of Congress is inclusion of a permanent rate of pay for veterans suffering from tuberculosis whose cases have been arrested. Sale of poppies other than those bearing the Legion and Auxiliary sticker will not be authorized by the American Legion. This will be sold by the auxiliary units of Indiana. Mrs. Charles Milo Gibbs, president of the Greenfield unit, has appointed committee chairmen and many plans have been outlined for the year's work. The unit will have a ways and means committee to provide funds for welfare work. New rooms in the Memorial Bldg., have been decorated and furnished by the auxiliary. A series of card parties is being held during February. Officers of the Lawrenceburg unit are: Mrs. Jennie Wessel, president; Mrs. A. F. Fagaley, vice president; secretary, Miss Nora Nead; treasurer, Mrs. Stephen Liddle; Miss Emily Kestner, historian; chaplain, Mrs. Frank Wirth, and sergeant-at-arms, Mrs. Anna McKinley.* The annual ■‘Heart Dance” will be given in February by the Legion and auxiliary. New Bill on View at Palace
BY WALTER D. HICKMAN The new proceedings at the Palace may be stated in one word — mild. The chief feature is Florence Gast and her four dancing boys. Although not sensational dancers, these five have a pleasing little hoofing act. Little more speed on part of the boys and more personality on part of Miss Gast would aid the act. This act has one splendid quality, youth. - The revue stage had Its day of family automobile sketches. On the Palace bill Is ‘‘Field’s Family Ford.” It is only fairly wel presented but the trick car acts wel. Basil and Saxe offer a sketch called “Recruiting.” This act has seen its day in vaudeville. At present it is neither funny or interesting to me. Christy and McDonald attempt eccentric comedy by the way of music. Christy Is too “wild” to register with his comedy. He does not know how to play the piano, but why mention piano rollt: all the time? Manuel Vego opens the bill with an off acrobatic act in which he fights a “dummy.” At the Palace today and Saturday. •!• •!• -IIndianapolis theaters today offer: Dave White and Company at the
