FINAL DAY’S PLAY IN MARION COUNTY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HERE
S. H. S. ON tLOW SIDE OF SCORE Martinsville High Proves Too Much for Blue and White Netters. Bv Times Svecial MARTINSVILLE, Ind., Jan. 31. — Shortridge dropped its first basketball game in fourteen starts here last night to Martinsville, 45 to 23. The Artesian City netters were out in the lead at all times by a big margin, the half-time count being 20 to 6, Whether it was the large floor or any other new condition confronting them, there is no question that the Indianapolis boys were disorganized badly from start to finish. Martinsville out-jumped, out-passed and outdribbled the visitors-consistently, although the Indianapolis team got many bad “breaks” on close-up shots. Hendrix counted the first field goal for Shortridge after eleven minutes of play. Many time-outs were taken by the north siders in an attempt to reorganize their play, but their efforts failed to get the old “system” going. Their foul tossing was good. When finally compelled to resort to long-distance shooting, something It hey have not been called on to do Rhls season.' they were not able to hit with any degree of accuracy, aside from two heaves by Spaulding from back of the center. The S. H. S. center led his te%m with 10 points. Reynolds at forward*for the State champs, put 20 points on the 'scoreboard and Whitaker, Martinsville center, showed his class by dropping in eight field goals from all angles and distances. Second-string players were sent in for-the- winners near the end of the contest.
