FRENCH AS 111 AS ENGLISH IS USEDBYSTATION Canada Letting Itself Be ~ Heard by World — Brewery Is Studio, Bv VEA Service MONTREAL, Jan. 29.—Canada Is letting itself known to the world through station CKAC. This station is unique in that it makes ail its announcements in French and English, for It is in the midst of the pioneer French colony of America. French artists broadcast from the studio, the station is conducted by men of French descent and it is owned by one of the leading French newspapers in America. Yet announcing in Frencvh and English is only one of this station’s features. Others are: 1. Conducting a course In 110, the international radio language which this station is sponsoring for worldwide adoption. 2. Running a band concert for cities in Quebec, outside of Montreal. 3. Broadcasting from a unique brewery studio. Several courses have already been completed for the education of listeners in 110, -the world wide radio language corresponding with Esperanto and Ido. The courses are conducted bn both English and French. Cities throughout Quebec have been taking advantage of the other for a prize to the best city "band fn the': province. Every Sunday afternoon anew band comes to CKAC to entertain critical ears. A popular vote will be taken, at the end of he contest, some time in April, to decide on the winner. The brewery studio of CKAC is in Montreal, a short distance from the transmitting station. It feeds remote control entertainment through CKAC. It is unique in that the studio is

You’ve heard the Franks, or heard of them, haven’t you—famous radio entertainers? Here is their announcer. She’s Betty Jane Bessinger of Newark, N. J., daughter of one of the Franks, Frank Bessinger. The other Frank is Frank White. Betty introduces the Radio Franks to their audiences through stations WEAF, WJZ and WOR. M: actually the brewery washroom. Whenever a show is to be hurled into the air, the studio ceilling and walls are lowered by a pulley system the floor is covered with a thick rug, kegs are used for seats and the microphone is set up for the music.* The concerts from this studio have appealed to listeners to such an extent that three stenographers are required to take care of it.
