VAN ORMAN AT PURDUE Tells Annual Road School Highways Mean Education. Bn Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind., Jan. 23. “Good roads mean transportation; transportation means education, and with these two great problems in such capable hands, Indiana can well congratulate itself,” Lieutenant Governor Van Oqman said in an address at the annual State road school at Lafayette Thursday. School Given Name School 34, Wade St. and Boyd Ave., will be known as the Eleanor Skillen School, hereafter. Raising the American Legion $5,000,000 endowment fund, to which contributions now are being received, was authorized by the 1924 national convention. The American Legion always has given first place on its program to care of the disabled. Second, the Legion has at heart the interest of the orphans of men who died in service or since their discharge. It is estimated there are today six thousand such children needing care. The Legion helps to mainfciin homes for these wherever possible. Mrs. Cora Sherwood is acting president of the Valparaiso unit, while Mrs. Louise Shauer, president, is in Florida. South Bend unit is planning a tea in honor of Mrs. George Mclvor, past district committeewoman; Mrs. Adolph Lootens, Twelfth district hospital chairman, who will sail for Europe soon, and Mrs. B. W. Brainard of Goshen, new committeewoman. Mrs. C. E. Combs will be guest of honor. She also will be chief speaker before the David McAllister unit of Lawrenceburg Friday.
