Making a law of any of five bills raising mortgage exemption from SI,OOO to $2,000, now before the Indiana Legislature, would result in approximately $8,000,000 less taxes for the ninety-two counties, according to investigations by Senator Russell B. Harrison and the Stats tax board. Harrison is chairman ol Senate Committee Judiciary B, which has before it bill of Senator Lamber, Columbus, Republican. Sucsh a law would raise taxes Idper cent, Harrison said, and would result in evasion of taxes by owner* mortgaging property and investing in tax-exempt securities.
