HOUSE RECEIVES ‘BLUELAW’ BILL Measure to Stop Sunday Amusements Presented. Proposed legislation requiring strict observance of Sundays 'and compelling school officials to arrange for display of the American flag on school buildings was introduced in the Indiana House today. Representative Kissinger, Columbia City, was author of the so-called "Blue Sunday Bill,” which is said to be sponsored by the Lord’s Day Alliance, and has. at least, sanction of the Ku-Klux Klan. Under the Kissinger bill it w r ould be unlawful for any motion picture show, theater, poolroom, bowling alley, dance hall, saloon or amusement place to operate on Sunday. No persor, could employ another more than six days a week or more than twenty-fovjr hours continually. Seventh Day Adventists and others observing a Sabbath other than Sunday would be exempt from provisions of the bill. Heavy fines, sentences and closing of offending places of business are provided. Representative Cooper, Terre Haute, introduced the bill requiring display of flags on schoolhouses. CHARITY DYE HONORED Shortridge to Name New Library in Memory of Teacher. \ Shortridge High School will have anew library, due to efforts of Mrs. Della M. Thompson, dean of girls. Mrs. Thompson is conducting a campaign to give students and alumni an opportunity to contribute books. Students in charge are Bernice Spades, chairman; Louise Cox, Ruth King, Edith Ann Hoopingarner, Agnes Ball, Josephine Smith and Dorothy Miller. They will be assisted by an advisory faculty board. The library will be called “Charity Dye Memorial Library” in honor of Charity Dye, a well-known teacher. HOOK BUYS OUILDING Kahn Property Purchased for Warehouse and Offices. Announcement was made today of the purchase by the Hook Drug Company of the old Kahn building at the southeast corner of Market and California Sts., from the Kahn Realty Company. Henry Kahn, realty head, said the consideration was SIOO,OOO. According to John A. Hook, drug company president, the company will take possession June 1. It will be used as a warehouse, distributing station and office. Hook said. The company has outgrown its present location at Market and Noble Sts., he said.
FIRE RUNS RESTRICTED New Boundaries Established for Police Squads. Restriction of the district in which a police squad from . headquarters responds to first fire alarms was announced today by Inspector Walter White. The squad has been going to all fires In territory bounded by SL Clalr, Sixteenth, Noble and West Sts. It will go to first alarms hereafter in territory bounded by North, Noble, South and West Sts. The squad will continue to go to •11 second alarm fires and all first alarms from hospitals, Klngan & Cos. and the Indiana Woman’s Prison.
