INJUNCTION IS ASKED Property Owners Allege Paving Assessment Roll Illegal. An injunction asking that the city of Indianapolis, Marion County Construction Company, Incorporated; Joseph L. Hogue, city controller, and JohiyL. Duvall, county treasurer, be restrained from collecting the assessments for paving of Lambert St., from Harding St., to Belmont Ave., has been filed in Superior Court room 3 by John F. Atz, 1247 S. Richland St., and other property owners on intersecting streets. Suit alleges that the amended assessment roll issued by the board of works on Jan. 26, 1924 was illegal because it was made after Nov. 23, 1923 when the original roll was announced. URGE STARR FOR BENCH Nine Legislators Wire Watson Indorsing Gary Attorney. f Indorsement of Oliver Staj-T, Gary attorney, ' for the second Federal judgeship in Indiana was telegraphed to United States Senator James E. Watson Tuesday by nine Republican members of the Indiana Legislature. Those signing the indorsement were Senators C. , Oliver Holmes, James J. Nejdl and William F. Hodges, Gary; Representative J. Glenn Harris, Gary; Representative John W. Thiel, Hobart; Representative Willis E. Roe, East Chicago; Representative Frederick G. Lisius, Crown Point; Representative Henry F. Batterman, Crown Point, and Representative William A. Hill, Hammond.

CHANGES ARE EXPECTED Only House Engrossing and Journal Clerks Permanent, Says Thiel. With exception of the House engrossing and journal clerks, all appointments made by Representative John W. Thiel, chairman of the patronage committee, are temporary and subject to change, he said today. Enrolling clerks are to be appointed later, Thiel said. Appointment of a minute clerk and parliamentarian has been delayed owing to reported inability of politicians to agree on a suitable candidate. Cal Faris, Muncle, who has filled the position since 1917, is generally conceded to have inside track on the job, despite reported objections to his appointment by certain Muncie politicians. ROAD EXPENSE HALVED Highway Will Be Relocated to Eliminate Grade Crossings. The Indiana State highway commission has completed an agreement with the New York Central Railroad Company whereby each will bear half the expense of relocating State Road 17 near Butler, Ind., on ground given by Dekalb County in order to eliminate two dangerous grade crossings. Relocation was an alternative to construction of a subway and an overhead crossing. Each party is saved $60,000 by relocation, according to John D. Williams, State highway director.

A Puzzle I a Day .hy (CMANTp gj§ A hole has been torn in the paper cover of this book, revealing the three words: CHANT NICE EAR. Can you figure out the complete title of the book, with the author's name, from the parts of the words which are visible? Yesterday’s answer: The eighteen-foot monument weighed 5,832 pounds, being proportioned after the twenty-foot monument which weighed 8,000 pounds. A common error is to divide 8,000 by 20, thus giving 400, and multiplying 400 by 18, thus producing 7,200, as the supposed weight of t'he eighteenfoot monument. But such a method of figuring does not account for the difference in size; it merely considers the difference In height. 8,000 is the cube of 20 (20 times 20 times 20), and 6,832 is the cube of 18 (18 times 18 times 18).
