BANDITS HOLD UP SHOP ON SQUARE; ESCAPE WITH SBOO Martinsville Baker and Customer Handcuffed to Stairway. Bv Times Special MARTINSVILLE. Ind., Jan. B. Police today were working on the theory that the four unmasked men who entered the bakery of George Matthews late Wednesday afternoon and robbed him of approximately SBOO, knew that the baker seldom banked and kept his money in the. store. ' Matthews and GUs Goins, a customer, were handcuffed, tied to 'the stairway on the second floor of the building and their lips taped together to prevent outcry. The robbery is one of the boldest ?ver staged here. The four men Irove up to the bakery, on the public square, in an auto about 5:30. One asked for a loaf of bread. When Matthews turned, the four pulled guns, locked the door, pulled town the shades and blew out the ?oal oil lamps. The bandits ordered Matthews and Goins to the rear of the store, where they took between S7OO and SBOO from Matthews and $lO from Goins. Matthews was able to get a knife out of his pockets and free himself and Goins from the banister. Harry Moore, one of Matthews’ employes, came to work and helped the two file off the handcuffs. Police were not notified of the hold-up until three hours after it occurred. SUPERIOR COURT SOUGHT Knox County Bar Association to Sponsor Bill. Bv Times Boecial VINCENNES, Ind.. Jan. B.—Kpox County Bar Association has obtained approval of a bill providing for a Superior Court for Knox County. Additional court is needed because of the heavy dockets of the Circuit Court. State Senator P. H. Easton of Sandbom and Joint Representative Frank Willis, Knox and Pike Counties, have approved the measure, which provides a judge with a salary of $4,200, of which $3,500 is to be paid by the State and S7OO by Knox County.
