P per Started It in 1888 and Keeps on Telling of ‘Casey’

■v WALTER D. HICKMAN. HE current revival of Gilbert II & Sullivan's “Pinafore,” at ■KJ the Murat with De Wolf Hopper as Dick Deadeye will be remembered by me because of one thiiig, and it is a good revival, too, ’rhat is—Hopper recites “Casey at the Bat.” Hopper started reciting “Casey” in 1888 and it is something that he has not ■j, . been able to for* cite this poem of jjjj the glorification baseball. Between poem belongs to HOPPER the old school and Hopper belongs there, also. •During his talk last night, Hopper said he was not bom in Indianapolis, but that he has died here several times. He is a great wit, you know, but even when he is the funniest, he tells some big truths. One good thing this week, Hopper is not suffering death this week. “Pinafore” does net give Hopper the personal chance ..hat “ The Mikado” affords him. As Dick Deadeye, Hopper relies upon his makeup to carry him through. I mean by that, that the singing parts and the story really make “Pinafore” a favorite. Os course Hopper mus-; be in the cast of “PirAfore.” I would care to see nobody else in the part. His make-up is wonderful. He receives excellent support from Sarah Edwards as Little Buttercup, and she gets a lot of fun out of the p&rt. Others who do good work are Ethel Walker as Josephine, Ethel Clark as Hebe, Sudworth Frazier as Ralph Rackstraw, George Shields as Sir Joseph and Henry Kelly as Captain Corcoran. The chorus numbers were splendidly done. Hopper has a good singing organization around him. At the Murat today and Saturday. -|. -|- -|- FIYE GOOD ACTS ON VIEW AT THE PALACE There are five good acts on view at the Palace today and Saturday. A1 Garbelle has surrounded himself with a number of girls who daiice and sing well together. The act is dressed in good taste and at times it is lavish. It is called “Silks, Satins and Diamonds.” I havo always enjoyed the work of James H. Cullen, because nobody but Cullen uses his material. He knows how to “sell” a song over the footlights and there is common sense and a point to his jokes. He knows his stage.

Scotty Welch and the Madison Sisters have a singing offering which 'a done in good taste. The man is a good pianist. They close with their impression of a newsboy’s quartette singing “Roll Those Bones.” Good act. Bernivici Brothers have been long enough in the amusement business to know that good music can be appreciated by an audience in a vad&eville theater. They know how “to dress up” their numbers. They know when to offer jazz. The brothers are violinists who are able to create a tonal picture. The Lind Trio do some interesting stunts while balancing themselves on ladders. The movie is Elaine Hammerstein in "Foolish Virgiff ” At the Palace today and Saturday. Other theaters today offer: McIntyre and Heath at Keith’s; Emma Carus at the Lyric; stock burlesque at the Capitol; “Peter Pan” at the Ohio; “So Big” at the Circle; "The Navigator” at the Apollo; "The Measure of a Man” at the Isis, and "A Sainted Devil” at Mister Smith’s. The Indiana Indorsers of Photoplays indorse the following adult pictures: “So Big” at the Circle and “A Sainted Devil” at Smith’s; family, “So Big” at the Circle, “The Navigator” at the Apollo and “Peter Pan” at the Ohio.
