There's Lot of Fun in This Hour Concert With Edison Records

By WALTER D. HICKMAN rr“| ANTA CLAUS or somebody I asked me to arrange an hour | concert with Edison records. Being the obliging thing, I have done my best in arranging an “AllEdison Concert.” Have played all the records I am telling you about today, and I am sure that it is an all-round program. Here is my hour Edison concert as follows: “Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture,” in two parts, as played by the American Concert Orchestra. Rather reminds me of “William Tell.” Beautiful and soothing. “Italian Rose." foxtrot and song, played by Kaplan's Melodists and sung by Charles llart. “Dreary Weather,” played by Broadway Dance Orchestra. Song by C harles Hart. Many times the Edison have two different orchestras on one record. This gives delightful variety. “That’s Georgia" and “The Sunshine Always Shines for Me,” as played by the Merry Sparklers. Ed Smalle and Harvey Himlermeyer are the soloists. Both good popular foxtrots. “The Larboard Watch.” tenor and bass number by Harvey Hindtrmver and Donald Chalmers. Also, "King of the Sea." by Chalmers. Many times I have been asked to list tenor and bass duets. Splendid.

SAVINGS COMPANY COMMUNITY ASSET City's Many Homes Due to Splendid Growth, The splendid growth of such a :oneern as the Fletcher Avenue Bav :ngs and Trust Company deserve 1 the recognition of the community. Particularly when "the city of ■ homes” is so largely responsible to i this company for many of its at I tractive homes. ! They have made it possible for many persons desiring homes to realize their dreams on a loan plan that would appeal to the low salaried man. The money of depositors Is i loaned on homes for a first mortgage to the amount of 6 per cent of the • value of the home as set by the com : patty's appraisers. Easy monthly [payments are arranged for the borI rower to repay his loan and his home is secure. The assets of the company are $6,200,000. They will pay dividends of 6 per cent on your savings and thereby help you to prepare yourself to be ready for whatever the future may bring. Kitchen Plans S r """“ OME kitchens make housework a drudgery, some make it a pleasure. Insufficient light, tob much space, high cupboards and unhandy appliances lead to a tiresome, trouble soma day. Women can be almost as fresh and good-natured in the evening as In the morning. If their kitchen work Is efficient arranged. For this, an efficiently laid out kitchen, with utensils In their proper places. Is necessary. When building or remodeling a home is sought, the kitchen should be Inspected even more closely than any of the other rooms. Is there a window over the sink, where most of the kitchen work Is done? Are the euphoarcls low and convenient enough to reduce reaching and walk- 1 ing to a minimum? It. the entire 1 kitchen compactly arranged, so that as little walking as possible need be done? Note Lighting Are there any convenient lights, such as one at the sink, besides a center celling light? Are there any haseplugs. for electric attachments? How are the so-called “modern” conveniences arranged? There should be room for a table in the kitchen, and two chairs. The stove and the sink should not be farther apart than the width of the room, and the closer they are to gether the better the arrangement. A soft, light gray Is about the best color for the kitchen woodwork.

HiERK is nno of the sow typos of bungalows that i_——l can ho built on a. narrow lot. At the same time it gives the maximum of room, convt-nionre and light. The exterior is of grayish brown stueoo, relieved by white trim. A roomy porch leads into the hall and thence into the living room. The screen porch in back may bo used as an auxiliary bedroom, especially for the baby. The bedrooms are reached through tile door off the kitchen and are grouped together at one end. The A soft peach, or light, tan, might also do. These colors are restful and at the same time reflect enough light for the necessary kitchen work. The pots, pans and other working utensils should ho hung on individual hooks alongside the sink or In a large cupboard below, where no rummaging about is needed to find the required article. Help Your Feet The best floor covering for a kitchen Is rubber, but since this is too expensive for many homes, cork linoleum may he found that is moderate in price and almost n.s effective as the rubber. Varnish this over twice, immediately after laying, and you will have a floor that will be kind to your feet and will last for a long time.

COKE ADVISED FOR USE IN HOME | Carbon Product More Efficient Than Coal, “The results obtained thus fir show that coke can be, burned in 1 "use.heating furnaces much more t-lli'-irmly than soft coal,” said Fredrick G. Rastenberg, Citizens Gas < 'nrapany. < injections are sometimes urged j against coke for domestic purposes, j but these are based largely upon a [ lack <>f familiarity with Its use. Coke j is unlike both hard and soft coal. 1-ut not so much unlike either that j tin- method of firing Is difficult to i understand. Rules for burning it; ■ rnt<-r largely on thickness of fuel ! bed as a means of draft control, and j full instructions can be readlily se- , cured from the local gas company which produces by-product coke for domestic purposes, which they claim if used by all of the householders of the city would reduce the smoke nuisance by at least 75 per cent. Surely the most disagreeable work a householder is called upon to do is to clean the scot out of his furnace and flues. Moreover, the cleaning Is not limited to furnace and flue alone, hut extends to the entire house. With hot-air heating particularly some of the soot may be carried Into the house, necessitating more frequent housecleaning, curtain j washing and papering. The clean- j liness of coke should appeal espe- j daily to the housewife.
