HIGH SCHOOLS IN INDIANA REPORT ENROLLMENT GAIN Increase of 55.95 Per Cent Registered in Past Five Years. ——j IGH school attendance in InI_l| diana has increased 55.95 per •H cent during the i>ast live years, according to State department of public instruction. Average daily attendance of elementary cljjldren has increased 14.91 per cent. Report shows an increase of *>.o7 per cent in enumeration as compared to 33.28 per cent gain In enrollment. In 1920 the enumeration was 772.854. and the enrollment. 460,839. In 1924 tiie enumeration was 819.827 and the enrollment, 614.212, showing an increase of 46,827 in enumeration and 153,373 in enrollment. High Daily Attendance In 1920 there was an average daily attendance of 385.723 in the elementary schools and 68.389 In the high schools. Five years later, the daily elementary attendance was 146.685. a gain of 57.962 and the average daily attendance for high school was 1**6.658, an incretise of 38.269. According to officials of the. State department, the increase in tiltschool enrollment during the past five years is the greatest m the history of the State, and this is attributed quite largely to the enforcement of the compulsory school attendance law. The increase in enumeration has come about through a greater zeal on the part of enumerators in searching out the children of the various districts. Teacher Increase Lowwhile the enumeration shows an increase and the schools show this high increase in enrollment. this has been accompanied l>y a comparatively insignificant increase of teach ers. There has been an increase <*f only 1.512 teachers or an average of 101.4 pupils per teacher. A large per cent of the era le grad uates are now completing their high school course, statist. - slvav. In 1921 there were 21.372 graduates of elementary grades and in !92t there were 17.234 graduated from the high schools, a total of 55.11 per cent of the cla*s completing the high school course. FIVE MOTORISTS SLATED Three Drivers Are Charged With Other Tr?yfic Violations. Five men were arrested as alleged speeders Thursday night. Three others were slated on other traffi* law violations. Trrmont Ave.. manager Pigely Wiggly store in the Arcade building, refused to open the place for two young men at 6:30 p. m.. Thursday night. They sat for twenty minutes in an auto near the store and Moore became frightened and railed police. They gave their names as John Crider. 19. Bloomington. Inn., and Frank Reynolds. 23. Fifty-second St. and Sunset Ave. Crider was charged with carrying concealed weapons when officers sai-1 they found an automatic in the car.
