!R NURSE SEES HOPE FOR WOMAN IN ABE LINCOLN Believes Same Opportunities in America Exists for Her Sex, If American opportunities can make an Abraham Lincoln, they can produce great women. So believes Mrs. D. Isobel Pirie Beyea of Cedar Rapids, lowa, who will lecture over Indiana on “Public Health and Citizenship,” under auspices of Indiana Anti-Tuber-culosis Association. Mrs. Beyea will speak in Indianapolis until Christmas. She has returned from a seven months tour in Australia and New Zealand. She has lived in eighteen countries. Immigration Big Problem ‘•lmmigration is the greatest American problem today. We have destroyed our nationality for the sake of industry, we undervalue our opportunities,” she said. She her lieves the Japanese problem is not taken seriously in this country. Mrs. Beyea, whose great grandfather, Sir George F. Aisbury. was Lieutenant Governor of British West Indies, came to America thirty years ago from Scotland. During the World War she was a nurse in Europe, and has worked with immigrants on Ellis Island. “Citizens have the right to demand enforcement or repeal of every law. As long as the prohibition law is on our statute it should be enforced. Every Child's Rights • "Our ideals and standards will go the wall unless intelligent persons vet busy. Birth rate is high among ."oieigners. and Anglo-Saxon will be wiped out ts we do not study social hygiene and health preservation. Every child hw the right of a sound body and sound mind. “Our coliega system is wonderful, but standards r.re too low. Higher education is in many respect superficial. Graduates are Ignorant of current events. The tendency is toward more thoroughness. “ ‘Hold fast America,’ would be my national watchword. We must be ndepcndent. but not Isolated. ' Parents are more to blame for looseness’ among young folks than f hey are themselves.” she said. But alas and alack! It was soon found that the dictionary which had served well for many years was failing in Its old age. Words oven ted during and since the wa, —,ind some, 'tis said, that never were invented at ail. until croswords came along—were favorites with the puzzle writer*.
