Take JEWELRY, for example. The man’s own jewelry—the cuff links, two or three tie-pins, shirt-studs, a good pocket or wrist-watch, a serviceable watch-chain or fob, a quiet ring, a cigar cutter, a gold or silver pencil or pen, a belt 'buckle or two —the man’s opportunity to ADVERTISE his grade-making
through his personal jewelry are circumscribed. But to a woman—to the man’s wife, mother, sister or sweetheart “pretty things” (by which the lady really means JEW ELRY!) are as the breath of life! And in the home it means everything from the copper tea-pot to the silver dinner set; it means lamps, knives, forks, spoons, toilet articles and other things made of precious stones, platinum, gold, silver, copper, iron or brass. And every last one of these thousands of personal or home adornments or utilities is the symbol of SOME MAN'S love for some woman!—is an evidence of the sincerity of his affection for the woman, of his “imitation” or REAL intentions to MAKE THE GRADE!
