anew bridge, accenting to John D. Williams. State road director. The reclamation proje</ was let to contract, but was under The plans and supervision of J. Titus, chief bridge engineer. In twenty-nine days workmen tore up and built anew wood-block floor, re-spaced and riveted the old longitudinal stringer, adding two new lines of stringers the entire distance of the bridge: cleaned, brushed and paintel all steel and iron work. This was accomplished without interrupting traffic. During the repair period the ;n----terurbaji line crossing this bridge also replaced its old rails with larger ones and raised these and their supporting stringers in order to place the top of the rails at the same elevation as the new bridge floor. This bridge is 618 feet long a.nd has a clear width of twenty feet The structure now is in condition to handle heavy modern traffic for a l • riud of twenty to twenty-five years, according to Titus. sent Titus the following expression: •"The Clinton Chamber of Commerce wishes to express its % liigh appreciation of your action in connec Uon with the laying of plans for repaving the bridge over the Wabash Rivet at this point on the Clinton <t and Terre Haute road. We particularly appreciate your providing in advance for the laying of the pavement in longitudinal sections. We feel that it was no small feat on the part of the engineers and contiactor to keep half of the roadway open, when it is borne in mind that the tracks of the traction line occupy about one-third of the width of the bridge.
