Peter's Gi'cat Confession Told in This Story
TEXT—Matthew 16:13-30 When Jesus eama into the coasts nf Caesarea Phillippi. ho asked his dis-up'r*, saying. Whom do men say that 1, the Son ot man. am? Ami .hp. ca:d. Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some. Elias; and others. Jeremias. or one of the prophets. He said unto them. But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said. Thou are the Christ, the Son of the Uvm? God. And Jesus answered and said unto him. Blessed are thou Simon Barjona: for flesh •r.ii blood hath not revealed it unto theo, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee. That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my dnf; h; and th- gate* of hell shall not prevail against it And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shait bind on earth, shall be bound m heaven: and whatsoever thou Shalt loos- on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. Tiien charged he hi* disciples, that they -hould tell no man that he waa Jesus the Christ. Ry WILLIAM E. GILROY, D. P. Editor of The Congregationalist. O. K. Chesterton, the well-known English Journalist, has called atten .on to the fact that when Jesus would establish His church on earth He chose as the rock upon which to mid it neither the sublime John, nor the guideless Nathaniel, but a man full of human weakness lik--I’er.er, whom Mr. Chesterton characterizes as a “snob.” Peter was eomething of a “snob.” •hough he was probably not con scions of it. His impetuousness and self confidence made him think of himself as Just a little more dependable than the rest of the disciples. Did he not say to Jesus, "Though all my men deny Thee, yet will not I? * His religious prejudices, also, were so intense that he had to have a vision on the housetop before he would receive a Gentile upon com men ground. The Gospel sfory. both in the New Testament, and in the records of the triumph of the G i=pe! in the Church, is the story of how weak men, and proud men, and ambitious men, like Peter, have been transformed into humble, courageous, -aintly men, whom God has chosen for the outworking of Ills purposes. The beginning of Peter's transformation was his meeting with Jesus He da not understand Jesus, but Peter with all his faults and weak'icssee was a sincere man, and he had this fine characteristic that he knew greatness when be saw it. That :s not altogether a comm'':: quality in men. Our confessions mar k our characters and ideals. There arc men who never .nekr.ow! ‘•;!ge greatness in anybody. Better ri ink one's self superior to some •then* if one knows likewise one’s •nferiomy, than to have a low estl

The electric hearing follows Investigations made of practices of the Indianapolis Light, and Heat Company and the Merchants Heat and Light Company, following which the j companies were j* naliz--d $2,000 each for discrimination and suppressing demand charges. The commission has assumed that tlie companies can afford a "suppression” all along the line, it is understood, and is expected to present new schedules changing methods of charging power consumers and reducing domestic energy rate. The water company purports to increase its rates 13 per cent, effecting a “reasonable return" on a $19,000,000 valuation below which the Federal Court restrained the public service commission from setting a V'luc. The commission, however, is expected to show that the water company is making more money under the old rates than was anticipated.
