COMMUNITY FUND TO ASK $700,215 Record Member of Workers Are Signed Up. A total of $700,215 will he asked of the people of Indianapolis next month by the Community Fund for the support of the city’s thirty-nine social service organizations, according to annountiement today by J. K. Lilly, chairman of the general committee in charge of the campaign which begins next Friday. The appropriations for the individual agencies will not be made until after the campaign, when the actual amount of money obtained will be known. Alfred O. Kouffmann, chairman of the campaign executive committee, has signed 2.045 workers, the largest number that ever served in a Community Fund campaign. The mile square has been divided intoo [into] four divisions, headed by Roy Shields. A. E. Baker, Wilbur Johnson and Robert H. Tyndall. The downtown section will comprise thirty-five districts instead of sixteen. as in former campaigns. ‘DEATH GAS' PROHIBITED Two States Forbid Sale of Gasoline, Fatal to Five. By United Press NEW YORK. Oct. 31.—Although the Standard Oil Company denied that tetra-ethyl lead when mixed with gasoline is dangerous, other States today were expected to followlead of New York and New Jersey in prohibiting the sale of gasoline mixed with tetra-ethyl lead, manufacture of which has caused the death of five men and partial insanity of twenty-three others. The Standard Oil Company ad mitted danger of the gas, and that it collected a previous toll of death and insanity before the forty-nine employes were exposed to it at the Bayway (N. J.) plant, which resulted in five deaths.
