PASTOR IN SERMON GIVES ANSWER IB GREATQUESTI9N Rev, Fackler Points Way Toward Eternal Life for All. Answering the greatest question, "How can I obtain eternal life?” the Rev. L. C. E. Fackler, pastor of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church Sunday showed the only way by which eternal life can be realized. "You have thought of this question and its answer.” the Rev. Fackler said. "The question is "How can I obtain eternal life?” "Now,” he said, "you are not ignorant of that. The Lord gives us credit for knowing at least some of the word, but at the same time He does not want us to be ignorant that there is a great deficit resting upon us. “You are not ignorant of God’s wo*-d. You are given credit for knowing some of God’s word. You have been instructed in God’s truth and have had your instruction supplimented and garnished by the many sermons. Now do you ignorantly, like the heathen, ask how can I obtain eternal life? Can you picture in your mind this man, who was greatly flustrated, coming to Christ He acts as if he is greatly interested in the answer

to the question which he asks. He does not excite Christ, who understands him. In the most gentle but yet in the most stinging way he tells the man that he is not as ignorant as he pretends. You have an intellectual comprehension of the word, says Christ, Thou knowest the commandments. You think that you have kept my commandments because you have not in deed transgressed any point of the second table of the law. But did he keep the law of the Lord? Take Credit “This man took credit for keeping the law. He said Master, all these commandments I have observed from my youth. What an inflated idea he had of himself. Just like so many today that think that they are the very good kind whom God ought to give special recognition. They take too much credit for themselves. They will not listen to that which the Lord has to about themselves. Are you the type of a person that confesses to be a Christian? Look at the deficit —the shortcomings which the Lord charges against you. Christ put this man to the test by telling him to sell all that he had

and give it to the poor and then take up his cross and follow' Him. This man was sad on account of this saying. The Lord pointed out the fact that he lacked one thing, and that which he lacked was not a small thing, but of vital importance. That which he lacked was the surrendering of himself unto God. His money waas dearer to him than the commandments of God. How can you love God when you love other things more than God? If you place God second are you keeping the commandment, love the Lord with all your heart and with all your mind and with all, your being? If you do not love the Lord above all things cart you rightly expect the greatest of all blessings? Love God How can I be made to love God above all things and be separated from the love of the world? Do not resist the word of truth, let the Holy Spirit lead you. The spirit of truth will work in you faith and faith shall cover all our imperfection. We are not saved by the deed of man; our deficit or shortcomings shall not be righted by any deed of man but 'by the grace of God
