Split In ranks of the Independent-Socialist-La Follette party alignment appeared imminent today over announcement from La Follette headquarters that the name of W. H. Allen would be tiled as a candidate for secretary of State, according to John Zahnd, r.atio'ial chairman of the independent group. Zahnd declared the "committee of twenty-one,” composed of representatives from the La Follette, Socialist and Independent groups, had agreed to support the La Follette-Wheeler ticket, providing no State candidates be filed from La Follette supporters. Zahnd threatened court action should Allen’s name be filed. F.oth the Socialist and Independent parties have candidates for Secretary of State. A. F. Bentley, chairman of the La Follette party, called a meeting of his executive committee for 2 p. m. today to decide on what action should be taken. Time for filing expelres at midnight. Branch today received a letter from Prosecutor William H. Remy asking him to order Ralph Lee, inmate of the Indiana State reformatory, released to Marion County authorities for trial for murder. Lee killed Abner grocer on Speedway Ave., in July 3, it is charged. He ’was an escaped prism ■ r from the State reformatory at the time, hav in.g been sentenced Oct. 13, 1923. in local Criminal Court to two to four teen years on grand larceny conviction.
