Auxiliary will back the Legion's universal service program. Mr. R. L. Royal, Douglas, Ariz., has been named chairman of the legislative committee. Mrs. A. F. McKissisk, Greenville, S. C„ and Mrs. R. M. Porter of Red Lodge. Mont., also will serve. Mrs. Charles E. Combs. Indiana department president, who will assume office Jan. 1, will appoint a legislative chairman. Chairman will hold office each succeeding year until after Congress and the State Legislature adjourn. Legionnaires have been urged to refrain from sports and athletics on MemoriaP day and to oppose such activity by others. Auxiliary will indorse this plan to presenve the Memorial day sentiment. National child welfare committee offices will be established at Legion headquarters. Committee is composed of nine legion members, nine auxiliary and nine of the forty and eight. Mrs. Winifred H. Caligan. Garden City. Kan., auxiliarychairman, is retiring national vice president of the central regional division. Officers selected for the Navy and Marine posts' organization are: Franc. Miami. Josephine Carteaux is publicity chairman of Kendallville unit, which meets monthly in the Legion rooms. Unit lias committees working with, the Sta'e auxiliary committees. It cooperates with the Legion post in welfare and relief work and has charge in one of the Government hospitals and has entertained post members. Mary Jane Jones, who joined when 3 days old, is youngest member and Mrs. John Kutcher the oldest. Mrs., Cal Graham is secretary. Hayward Barcus unit of Indianapolis held a food sale last Friday. Term., Oct. 10.—Two men were killed 'and four injured today when a steam shovel struck a stick of dynamite hidden in a mound of earth. Those killed were members of a SdHithern Railway construction crew.
