CEMENT BLOCKS IMPORTANT ITEM No item that goes into a building requires more attention then the cement blocks. Nothing will weaken a structure more than a defective block. The manufacture of this product has passed through many radical changes in the past few years. There was a time when cement for blocks was pounded into wooden forms allowed to dry and placed out in the open to season. A visit to the Helm-Lewis Cement Block Company, Fourteenth St. and F'all Creek, one of the most modern and complete plants of its kind in Indianapolis, will show to what extent the block business has advanced. This plant is equipped with the very latest type block machines and kilns, and has a capacity of 3.600 (locks a day. A complete line of on internal concrete products are manufactured by this company, including flower boxes, benches, bird baths, coping and ornamental porch and yard work. MODEL HOUSES IN EXPOSITION BOOTH Model houses, exact reproductions of houses designed and offered t y the National Builders’ Bureau, are I the feature of the O. D. Haskett Lumber Company exhibit at the Industrial Exposition. Two little ehouses aranged with a clever pergola and trailing vines tnd j plants give the home builder a pretry I good start on a picture of the house ! he would like to build. The Haskett Company is the sole Indianapolis | agent for the bureau. The advan- j rages of this service are discussed j with interested persons and a repre- I sentative of the bureau with many j years of experience advises and assists home builders with the prob ; lems confronting them. The men who have been in charge j of the exhibit were O. B. Johnson, I F. L. Miars, W. P. Newland ar.d j C. J. Murphy. Building and Savings Association Opens New Era With the Completion of Building Improvements

the RAILROADMENS BUILDING AND SAVINGS ASSOCIATION, 21 VIRGINIA AVE., AS IT APPEARS WITH THE RECENT IMPROVEMENTS.

Anew era in the life history of the Railroad Men’s Building and Savings Association is marked by the completion of the improve- - ments in their building, 2123 Virginia Ave. The association was organized in August ISS7 by men in the rail road service and especially for the benefit of railroad employes, and all persons of good intentions and honorable employment. Indianapolis, t'hen about 8,900 inhabitants, has grown and developed "No Mean City’’ and has the distinction of being the home of the largest Building an.l I* in Association in the United States. Tile association his loaned to its members, since organization, over seventy-five millions, all secured by first mortgage on real estate located in Marion Count j—a very small portion outside the city limits. We make no loans outside of Marion County. The fact that Indianapolis citizens average high as true Amor leans —thrifty money savers and substantial home owners has made this association possible. No other brings visions of Mecca and Bag dad. The time when an awning was just something to fool the sun has passed, for today an awning must be attractive, brilliant of color ar.d harmonize with the landscaping and architecture of the home, as well as the very best in d*-.s:gn and workmanship. Men with years of experience In the awning business at the service of prospective awning buyers and home owners are glad to help in the proper selection of awnings and mi terials*. There are also some very attrac tive lawn and porch furniture on display with many suggestions in this line. These products so-m a very large item in the business of the Thorp Awning Company.
