PASTOR CHARGED IN WIFE’S DEATH Body of Neighbor Also Examined for Poison, Bv Vrtted Pres* MfftTNT VERNON, 111.. Sept. 19. —Rev. Lawence M. Hight, 36, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Ina, a village ten miles ; south of here, today waived preliminary hearing on charge of murdering his wife with arsenic. He is! held in the county jail. Meantime, Coroner .Jess Ree, who ordered analysis of the viscera .of Hight’s wife which showed the presence of poison, started a postmortem into death of Wilbur Sweet - in. a neighbor of the- Rev. Hight. Sweetin's body buried at Metropolis, was exhumed and the viscera was sent to Chicago for ar.tlvsis. Sweetin was 41 years old. He died July 28. Coroner Reese acted at request of Ina citizens who told of gossip coupling Rev. Hight with Sweetin's wife. The death of both Mrs. Hight and Sweetin were‘ascribed to ptomaine poisoning. Rev. The regiments were recruited in this city and Wabash in 1862 They were under Sherman’s command in his march to the sea and passed in review before President Lincoln in Washington after the close of the war.
