CALDWELL KIN SOUGHT BY POPE IN MURDER PROBE Brother and Cousin Sought Relative to Hence Orme Tragedy, Holding to the theory that Henee Orme, wealthy farmer and clubman, was killed by Arthur C. Caldwell, 4S, of 1633 X. New Jersey St., Capt. Roy Pope, personal investigator for Mayor Shank, today was attempting to locate relatives of Caldwell who might give additional clews as to who could have been with Caldwell on the night of the shooting, Nov. 16, 1922. “Confessed” to Minister Caldwell took his own life by drinking poison ten days after the murder, following a confession to the Rev. Augustus Buchanan. 3320 Northwestern Ave., that he had “committed an awful crime on a country road where a man and woman were.” The Rev. Buchanan refused to hear details when Caldwell started to relate them. Finding trace of a diamond ring, valued at $700; which was taken from Miss Nelle McCune. 1221 X. Alabama St., with Ornte when he was shot, would be an important clew, officers admit, hut efforts to locate the ring have failed. Cousin in Virginia Kdward Gilbert, a cousin of Caldwell, who now resides in Midvale, Va., may be able to give clews to the nature of Caldwell's confession, r 'aptain Pope believes. A letter will be sent to "Gilbert today. Gilbert advised Caldwell to seek relief from bis conscience from a minister. Pope believes Gilbert may know details of the crime which Caldwell committed. At the time of Caldwell's death, Gilbert resided in Indianapolis. A brother of Caldwell living in Pittsburgh took over some of Caldwell’s personal effects through a pawn ticket when Caldwell's lifeless lK>dv was found. Pope has learned. Efforts to locate this pawn shop and ascertain what articles were pawned, have failed. Heavy Auto Duties Austria is considering raising the import duties on foreign automobiles from about S2OO to ? 1.460, and about SIOO on motorcycles.

Three-Tube Reflex Receiver Toneless Peak of Duplex Radio Amplification
By ISRAEL KLEIN NBA Service Radio Editor SHE owner of a reflex receiver, with one or two tubes for dual amplification, will find it a simple matter to add another stage of reflex. And it will well repay him for the trouble. Three-stage reflex is practically the peak of this kind of reception. It is equal to three stages of radio and two of audio amplification, with a crystal as detector. It will tune sharply and has been found especially sensitive, bringing in distant stations up to 1,000 miles off. even through local broadcasting. Following are the parts required: V, standard variocoupler, with eight taps on primary. Cl, 43-plate variable condenser. C 2, fixed condenser, .005 mfd. ('3, C 4, Cos, C 6, C 7, fixed condensers. .002 mfd. Tl. T 2, audio frequency transformers. T3, T 4. To, radio frequency or reflex transformers. R, 6-ohm rheostat. P, 400-ohm potentiometer. D. crystal detector. Three tube sockets. Switch and eight switch points. One open circuit jack. Binding posts, bus wire, etc., for connections. Compact Outfit With extreme care and forethought, the entire set can he erected on a base 13 inches long by 7 inches wide, with the panel 7 by 15 inches in measurement. The trick lies in arranging the radio frequency transformers directly behind one another in a line leading away from the panel, then placing the three tubes alongside in a similar line and the two audio-frequency transformers in a third line. If this arrangement is decided upon, it would be a good plan to use what is called a three-gang socket assembly, which consists of three sockets on one base. It conserves space. Otherwise, the sockets should he placed in such a position that the grid and plate terminals face the radio-frequency transformers, which should be to the left of the row of sockets. This will put the A battery terminals to the right, and short leads would be assured to the plate and grid terminals of the radio-frequency transformers. Condenser Control Since only one rheostat is provided to control the filament current. all three tubes should he alike. They may he either \\ D ll’s, 199’s, or TT-201-A’s. shunted across the primary of the first radio transformer, to increase signal strength for low wavelengths, but this isn’t necessary if broadcasting is all that is sought. The easiest way to wire this set is to start with the A battery leads, from the rheostat and socket terminals. Next come the grid and plate connections to the radiofrequency transformers, and the remaining leads may overlap these. Reflex receivers require a great deal of patience in their operation. This one calls for even more than ordinary skill and patience. Many nights of testing and switching of dials and other controls will finally bring the operator full reward. FOREIGN MISSION NEWS BROADCAST Presbyterians to Radio Weekly News Reports, By XFA Service PHILADELPHIA. Sept. 15—First attempts at broadcasting foreign mis sion news have been undertaken by the Presbyterian board of foreign missions. Announcements from the office of the Presbyterian general assembly, in this city, reveal the fact that a series of weekly news reports have been decided upon, to he broadcast regularly from station WFBII, at New York City, on 273 meters. Dr. Ernest F. Hall, eastern dis trlct secretary of the Presbyterian hoard, started the broadcasting series recently with a review of the progress made in foreign mission work After this the hoard expects to report weekly news from the foreign countries where Its missionaries are at work. Much of the news to he given out in this way will concern China, which Is to he a special subject for mission study hv the 10.000 Presbyterian churches In the United States. TRAVELING CATTLE 10 RADIO ‘VOICES’ Animals to Conduct Experiment From Train, By XEA Service OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 15.—Broadcasting from a moving train, still subject of experiment by man, will be undertaken by a herd of blueblooded cattle next month. *This unique venture is to be the feature of Nebraska’s annual pilgrimage through the State, in which a pure-bred dairy hull is exchanged for a “scrub” with each of thirtyone farmers. The train will run from Oct. 6 to 23, and will make thirty-one stops in as many communities of the State. Its purpose is the development of dairy cattle in Nebraska. The idea of radio as part of the special dairy train comes from W. D. Reyonlds of Denver. Colo. He will install both a broadcasting and a receiving set on the train, so that the cattle themselves will broadcast their "voices” and listen in on programs at other times. Ordinary barn noises familiar to farmers* will he carried to the city fans while the train is speeding along through the State. They will get the sounds of the cattle munching their hay and chewing their cuds, with an occasional “moo” to vary the performance. The aerial that can be erected on the train will not carry even the best of bovine talent very far. So arrangements have been made with station KFKX, at Hastings. and WOAW, at Omaha, to relay the "program.” Both stations will keep in close contact with the moving train.
