KIWIS OPEN ANNUAL SESSION Nearly 1,200 Delegates Gather at Evansville, Du United Prrz EVANSVILLE. Ind., Aug. 11.— What is expected to be th& largest district convention in the history of Kiwanis Clubs in Indiana was opened here today. Nearly 1.200 Indiana Kiwanians attended with Kiwanians from Illinois and Kentucky. Large delegations arrived from Indianapolis. Marion Kokomo, Ft. Wayne, South Bend. Hammond, Lafayette and Terre Haute. Illinois Kiwanis Clubs were represented by delegations from Cairo, Harrisburg. Lawrenceville. Mt. Carmel and Mt. Vernon. Western Kentucky cities were also represented. Prior to the formal opening at 10 o'clock this morning Evansville Kiwanian golfers played in a tournament against the visitors. A parade and an automobile trip featured the afternoon activities. A carnival ball and banquet will be given for the visitors tonight. Election of officers in the morning and a steamer trip in the afternoon will feature tomorrow's session. ANGELUS TO BE RUNG Five Large Bells to Be Placed in Holy Rosary Church. For the first time the notes of the Angelus. calling all of Catholic faith to prayer thrice daily, will be heard in Indianapolis next Sunday. Five large bells donated by members of the parish will be dedicated at the new Holy Rosary Catholic Churcn at 4 p. m. In accordance with ancient custom each of the bells will be placed under protection of some patron saint. The largest bell will be used in pealing the Angelus. and will be dedicated to Christopher Columbus, discoverer of America, and named San Salvador. It weighs 7.000 pounds and is said to be one of the largest bells in the United States. Pedestrian, 64, Struck Earl Davis. 64, colored. 620 N. Missouri St., was injured today by a machine driven by Edward Merrick, 45, of 1619 S. Senate Ave., at Capitol and Senate Aves. Merrick was charged with assault and battery.
