POLICE SCOUT FOR ALLEGED THIEVES Numerous Thefts Reported Over Night, When a friend went to the home of Oscar Hurley, 1137 Bellefontaine St., early today he saw a stranger leaving by the front window. The burglar was joined by a companion and the pair fled. Hurley said nothing had been disturbed. Police are searching for the man who tried to force entrance to the apartment of Hiss Emma Bakemeyer. 1116 N. Capitol Ave- Thursday. The man. according to Miss Bakemeyer represented himself as a laundryman. Mrs. T. A. Everett, 1349 S. Belmont Ave., reported a hand bag containing $5 and a s2l check stolen at Tremont Ave. and McCarty St. Shortly after two suitcases and a hand bag full of clothing had been stolen from the home of W. L. Tague, 1501 Central Ave., a man carrying the stolen suitcases and grip was seen at the Union Station. Mrs. Tague and her daughter grabbed the man. The property was recovered, but the man escaped. Burglars obtained $125 when they entered the store of C. G. Blythe, Thirty-eighth St. and Emerson Ave., Thursday.

P. Headquarters. Charles Brown will head the colored bureau at Republican county headquarters during the present campaign, George V. Coffin, county chairman, has announced. Brown formerly was a custodian at city hall. The first poll of the 206 precincts in the county will be started Monday. Coffin said he had turned over the list of Republican clerks for the first registration day, Sept. 6, to the county auditor. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE IS ON Indiana Travelers’ G. O. P. League to Double Enrollment. Membership drive to double the present enrollment of 8.000 was under way by the Travelers' G. O. P. League of Indiana today. Drive will last two weeks. League headquarters at the Severin are in charge of Henry A. Roberts, president of the league. He Is assisted by Mrs. Allen T. Fleming, representative of the State committee. Charles E. Spahr of Indianapolis is Seventh District chairman. WAR MENACE CITED Only Christian Education Can Halt, Friends Are Told. By Timet Special PLAINFIELD,, Ind., Aug. 22.
