I. U. EXTENSION INCREASES STAFF Six Additional Instructors Are Signed Up. With the announcement of six additional instructors for the Indiana University Extension Division here, a total of thirty-four teachers are prepared to begin the evening classes Sept. 25. For the first time the division offers a curriculum that will enable high school students living in Indianapolis to earn the credits required for the first teaching license, the second grade rural. A total of seventy-one courses are offered this year. New instructors are: Don E. Bridge, merchandising manager of the Indianapolis News, advertising classes; Mark E. Hamer, manager of the Ricney Data Service, methods of business research; Dr. Henry H. Carter, head of English department of the university, English and literature classes; Albert L. Detectives today said they had no identity of a bandit who held up Chester Jackson, son of Lafayette Jackson, president of the Standard Grocery chain stores, the day’s collection receipts as he stepped from his auto in front of the store at Leota and Bates St. Wednesday. Recheck showed first estimate given by Jackson to police was incorrect. Officers said Jackson told them the amount was $872.99, instead of SI,BOO. LAD MAY LOSE EAR Seriously Hurt in Fall While Driving Ice Wagon. James Young, 12, son of G. N. Young, 1008 E. St. Clair St., was in a critical condition at the Deaconess Hospital today from injuries received in a fall from an ice wagon, which he was driving for his father. Police were told the lad reached forward to w r hip the horses and fell when they plunged suddenly. One ear was practically severed and he suffered probable internal injuries when scraped by one of the wheels of the wagon.

BANDIT VISITS ICE CREAM CART Peddler Held Up and Robbed of $3. Frank Lizar, 139 Geizendorff St., an ice cream peddler, was held up and robbed in his wagon at 227 N. Hanson St., Thursday night. Lizar told Sergeant Sheehan and squad the man bought a cone, and when he turned to put the nickel in the money box he felt something against his side and heard the command, "hand over your money.” Lizar said he gave the man $3 that was in the box. James English, attendant at the filling station at 3404 E. New York St., called police when the two men in an auto passed the station several times and looked in closely. Dwight Ritter, 4415 Broadway, told police that his home was entered and $4 in pennies taken from a bank. CLUB FOR FIRST VOTERS Mrs. Thomas E. Chrisney to Organize Young Democrats. Plans for a “First Voters” Club were made at the meeting of the Seventh District Democratic Women’s Club Thursday afternoon at the Indiana Democratic Club, 22 E. Vermont St. Mrs. Thomas E. Chrisney will orsranize the club, which will be composed of young men and women who will vote for the first time this fall. A campaign fund committee composed of Mrs. John Downing Johnson, chairman; Mrs. E. R. G. Parker, Mrs. Margaret McGlinchey, and Mrs. Henry Commiskey. Miss Alma Sickler and Miss Julia Landers were appointed to take charge of headquarters tent at the State fair. DEFENSE DAY BOOSTED W. C. T. L'. to Give Patriotic Program Saturday Night. Central W. C. T. U. will give a patriotic program Saturday night at Brookside Park to stimulate sentiment in favor of National Defense day. Concert will be given by the Police and Firemen s band from 7 to 8 p. m. Mrs. C. G. Fitch and Mrs. Lillian May Hueslein will sing. Readings will be given by Mrs. Dorothea M. Woods and Miss Helen Frances Starr. Police quartette will sing. A film, “Hats Off,” will be shown.
