The Brewers left here Tuesday night and went to Toledo and Kansas City was to perform in Columbus today in a twin bill with the Senators. Jess Petty trimmed the Brewers in the first half of the double program at the Tribe lot Tuesday, 4 to 1, giving him twenty-one pitching victories this season. Walberg hurled the first conflict for the Brewers and Pott. Pritchard and Winn the second. All the Milwaukee fiingers used Tuesday were southpaws. Ray Schmandt was the batting leader Tuesday with a double and single in the opening battle and two doubles and a single in the wind up affair. Ernie Krueger caught both games and collected four hits, two being for extra bases. More than 6,500 fans viewed the struggles. It was “Ladies’ Day” and "Kids’ Day” and the free gate did a rushing "business.” However, there were more than 3,800 cash customers and the clpb bosses were satisfied. More than 1,100 women were present and children numbered 540.

The former Tribe pilot came to the city to visit with his family. The Reds had an off-day Tuesday and again today. Eddie Sidling made a remarkable play on Youngs terrific ground liner in the third inning of the first struggle Tuesday. Eddie flagged the drive with his bare hand and was neariy pulled off his feet He held to the ball and whipped to first for a put-out. It was the outstanding fielding feature of the day. Young certainly was burglarized of a gale hit. There were only four assists by the Indians in the opener. Petty had the Brewers popping up and flying to the gardens and fanned seven. Bell's home run was a mighty smaaa against the high left field fence. He got two of the Brewers' three hits on Petty. DOUBLE WIND-UP ON NEXT FISTIC PROGRAMAT FORT Hahn vs. Dyer and Roberts vs. Alte —Finley Wins Over Walther, Ray Hahn of Indianapolis will meet Eddie Dyer of Terre Haute, and Reamer Roberts will tangle with Merle Alte In two ten-round contests forming a “double wind-up” at tho Ft. Harrison boxing arena next Tuesday night. The boxers named are all local favorites and willing mixers, and the announcement was greeted with cheers by the capacity crowd witnessing last night's show. Usual Thrills Missing The regular Tuesday night program was interesting and brought together a number of well matched boys, but somehow lacked the "kick” usually received at the Army contests. This might have been due to the scarcity of local boys. The main go was won by Jimmy Finley of Louisville over A1 Walther of-Canton, Ohio. The two welters are much the same style of boxers and prone to hold on, which displeased the crowd. At one time, In the fifth round, Referee Bauman stopped the contest and warned them they must quit holding. The last few rounds were much better, with Finley taking a good lead. Capon! Makes Good Little Tony Caponl of Louisville impressed the fans with his cleverness and stamina In his win over Eddie Walsh of Chicago in eight rounds. Both were under 130 pounds. Johnny Murphy of Chicago, who was heralded as being a k. o. artist, was lucky to get the decision over Joe Walling of Louisville. Jimmy McDermott of Terre Haute and Jack Terry of Indianapolis, the only local boy on the card, went six fast rounds. They are a couple of hard hitting youngsters. Four rounds were even and then McDermott took a good lead. Clyde Willejt of Covington, Ind., won from Bozo Murphy in the sixround opener. They weighed over 200 pounds each and gave the ring platform and ropes a severe test.

HELEN WILLS IS EASY VICTOR OVER MRS. FALK Most Formidable Players in Upper Half of Draw With Champion—Doubles Competition Starts, By HENRY FARRELL United Press Staff Correspondent FOREST HILLS, N. Y., Aug. 13.—Playing brilliant and powerful tennis, Miss Helen Wills, national and Olypmic champion, ran through the second round of the women’s national championship here today.

With the utmost ease, the young champion defeated Mrs. Helen P. Falk, Elberon, N. J„ 6-0 and 6-0. The California girl was never presped, and, in fact, seemed from the ease of her manner and the confidence in her game that she was playing under wraps. The courts were slippery and Miss Wills played mostly in back court. Miss Goss in Battle Miss Eleanor Goss, New York, was the first of the ranking players to be in danger. After dropping the first set she rallied and defeated Mrs. B. E. Cole, New York, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Miss Leslie Bancroft, Boston, defeated MlB3 Anna Fuller, Boston, 6-2 and 6-1. Miss Martha Bayard, Short Hills, N. J., defeated Mrs. B. F Stefens, New York, 6-3 and 6-3. Miss Edith Sigourney, Boston, defeated Mrs. Robert Leroy, New York, 6-3 and 6-3. Hard Row for Helen By a peculiar working of the draw, most of the good players are in the upper half, with Miss Wills and her course through the early rounds was made much more difficult than for some of her rivals. The experience put her game on edge, however. The doubles competition, in which the Olympic champions. Miss Wilts and Mrs. Hazel Wightman, will seek the national title, also started today. Among the more important matches on the schedule were Miss Goss and Mrs. Jessup, against Miss Anna Fuller and Miss Margaret Blake, and Miss Browne and Mrs. T. Horace Dudley against Miss Penelope Anderson and Miss Isabella Mumtord. MISS DONNELLY VICTOR Local Girl Wins High Dive at Dublin Tailteann Games.
