‘CAL’ TO STRESS ECONOMY ISSUE AT NOTIFICATION Believes ‘Pocket Book' Question Most Important in Campaign, By United Press WASHINGTON Aug. 13.—Presi- : dent Coolidge believes the “pocket- ! book’’ issue is paramount in the com- ■ ing campaign. Straightforward declarations for; more economy in government and reduction in taxation it was learned today wilj constitute his main offensive against the issues launched by his opponents. Honesty Self-evident Coolidge is said to regard the “honesty in government” issue, made paramount by Davis, as too self-evi-dent and fundamental to require emphasis. The president in past speeches and actions has pledged himself to rigid enforcement of the laws and prosecution of offenders against the government and there he is willing to let the matter rest. He does not believe in making a virtue of being virtuous. All preparations for the notification ceremonies here Thursday night are complete. Chairman Butler, chairman of the Republican national committee, has gone to great pains to make it a democratic, non-exclu-sive affair. Seats for 2,500 Though it will be held in the Memorial Continental Hall, scene of the disarmament conference, with a capacity of only 2,500, seats have been reserved for only a few of those closely associated with the campaign and personal friends of the The rest are to be open to the public. Amplifiers have been installed to, relay the President’s speech to crowds in the park across the street. Radio facilities will circulate the speech to 25,000.000, according to the estimate of Butler.

Here is a thriller for the movie directors to follow. J. K. Frieze (left), Hollywood contractor, and Meyer Gibbson (right), his brother-in-law, saw a bandit run from a drug store and leap into an automobile. They ran after the car and swung onto the rear bumper as the auto speeded forty miles an hour. One opened the gas tank and the other snapped the gas line. When the engine died they seized the bandit and held him for police. He proved to be Charles Henry Oldfield, escaped Kansas convict, and robber of two Los Angeles banks. *
