REALTORS NEAR OF WORLD TRIP Glad I’m an American, Says Returned Tourist, “Conditions in Europe never were and probably never will be as good as they are in this country,” said Bert Essex, former realtor, today in an address on his trip around the world before the Indianapolis real estate board luncheon at the Chamber of Commerce. “The more I travel and see of the world, the more thankful I am that I’m an American,” he said. Japan is still clearing away the debris from the great earthquake last fail, he said, declaring destruction there beggars description. “The United States should not give the Philippines their independence,” Essex said, citing their thriving modern cities, all brought about through American influence. He praised Gen. Leonard Wood. Scars of war are disappearing in France, England and Belgium, he said. People are living in apparent peace and plenty, Essex said. Music was presented at the luncheon by the Turner trio. Report on the realtors' picnic to be held July 16 at Walnut Gardens was made. AUTO THEFTS CHARGED Police Say Fred Jarvis Confesses Taking Five Cars. Charged with stealing one auto several months ago and four cars recently. Fred Jarvis, 19, of 1507 N. Arsenal Ave., is at city prison. Detectives Klaiber and Sullivan arrested Jarvis at the Indianapolis Stove Foundry, where police said he sought work. They charged he had just stolen a large touring car owned by J. H Wees, Sullivan, Ind., at the Statehouse. Other cars police said he admitted stealing recently belong to Raymond Schmidt. 4205 X. Illinois St.; Michael O’Hair, 2663 X. Meridian St., and William C. Streen, 36 X. Oakland Ave. All were deserted after being used for joy-riding. Jarvis failed to remember the name of the owner of the auto he is said to have confessed stealing several months ago, police said. Mother of Three Asks Divorce Alleging that Anthony Cardinal conducted himself in such manner as to bring disrepute on her good name and that he abused her and humiliated her before freinds. Zona Cardinal. 912 E. Michigan St., has filed suit/'or divorce with Superior Judge L'r.n D. Hay. She asks custody of three sens, aged 22, 20 and 17. Charges were denied on defendant s behalf.
