ELECTION COSTS DIFFER GREATLY Explanation Sought by State Board. Evidence of wide differences in amounts paid by Indiana county officers for printing primary election ballots and remunerating election boards was brought to light today in returns to the State board of election commissioners. Posey County, which cast 8.500 votes in 1922. paid $1,040 for primary ballots this year and.s3oo to the election beard, while Fulton County, which cast only 500 less votes, paid only SB6 for printing the ballots and the election board $245. Casting 3.100 more votes than Posey County, Howard County spent ss9' less on ballots and $230 less for the election board. The only explanation that some counties had more candidates than others, and that the ballots would be larger and counting would takelonger. scarcely could explain away the differences found, according to George Healy secretary of the State board. MARTIN OUTFLIES DEATH Reaches Mother’s Bedside in Time to See Her Alive. By United Press CONNERSVILLE, Ind., July 2. Maj. Frederick Martin, former commander of the American round the world flight, won in a race with death to reach the bedside of his mother, Mrs. Nancy Martin, in a hospital here. Major Martin, now stational at Chanute field, Rantoul, 111., was informed Tuesday of his mother’s dangerous illness. He started for Connersville in an Army plane and reached here just a few hours before her death. Mrs. Martin will be buried Saturday. Major Martin returned to Chanute field today.
