GOVERNOR MUST NAME SEVENTEEN BOARD MEMBERS Vacancies Occur in Various Departments Before End of Year, Governor Emmett F. Branch has before him appointment of seventeen persons on State boards and commissions before the end of the year. At least three of the appointments will be made this month. The terms of Charles A. McGonagle, Plainfield, and Mrs. Ella B. Kehrer. Anderson, on the advisory juvenile committee expire Saturday. No one has been appointed to succeed John W. Van Atta on the livestock sanitary board, Whose term expired June 8. Appointees whose terms expire before the end of the year include: Lulu V. Cline, secretary, board of registration and examination of nurses, July 9; A. B. Crampton, Indianapolis, board of control, Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, Nov. 1; Donald Du Shane, Columbus, teachers’ retirement fund, Aug. 1; Benjamin F. Long, Logansport; Edwin Corr, Bloomington, and George Ball. Muncie, Indiana University trustees: John A. Gunn, Bedford, trustee. Southeastern Hospital for the Insane, Aug. 1; John G. Klingler, Brazil, State farm trustee, July 7; John R. Brown, Rockport, State tax board, Dec. 1, and trustee of the Indiana World War memorial commission: Marcus Sonntag Evansville; William P. Gleason. Gary; Howard O’Neal, Crawfordsville; James P. Goodrich, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Anne Studebaker Carlisle, South Bend. Their terms expire Nov. 10. The Governor has not named a successor to John D. Oliver, South Bend, trustee Purdue University, whose term expired this month. City Bond Issue Ratified Resolution ratifying a 8280,000 bond issue for city hospital improvements was adop.ed Wedniday night at a special meeting of city council. Mistake in the official notification of the meeting prevented action on an ordinance for approval of a $300,000 temporary loan for the board of health. Nurses Hold Picnic Nutrition nurses of the city board of health held their annual picnic today at Walnut Gardens, southwest of the city. About thirty nurses and their friends attended. Mrs. Alice Jones, superintendent of school nurses, was in charge.

Blood poisoning from injuries received during a cyclone two weeks ago, caused the death of Mrs. John Lucas, 40. The cyclone tore tne Lucas farmhouse from its foundation and turned it upside down. Mrs. Lucas was severely cut and bruised, but her condition was not regarded serious until blood poisoning set in. City Plant Prosperous By United Press RICHMOND, Ind., June 26. CHILDREN FIRST, CONFERENCETOLO Forget Hogs and Politics, Urges Attendance Officer, By Times Special WINONA LAKE. Ind., June 26 A plea for a cooperative and educational program, calling for the physical, mo: al, mental and physical development of the 600,000 school children of the State, was voiced by Miss Blanche Merry, State attendance officer’, in a talk today at the State conference of the Indiana University-Indiana Parent Teacher Association here. Miss Merry hailed the State compulsory attendance law as one of the stale's most beneficial statutes and said it had done more to make better citizens that any other statute on the books. “Forget hogs and cattle, politics and taxes,’’ she stated. “Keep before your mind the making of better citizens for tomorrow." Success of the motion picture censorship, carried out by the association, was pointed out by Mrs. David Ross, of Indianapolis. “The only way to stop bad pictures is to boost the good ones in every conceivable way,” sl.e said. PRISONERS TRANSFERRED Pendleton Gets Fifty-Four Men From Michigan City. By United Press PENDLETON, Ind., June 26. F’ifty-four prisoners from the State prison at Michigan City were lodged in the new reformatory here today. The transfer was made to relieve the crowded condition at the State prison., The men were brought here on two special interurban cars. Sixty Vets Go to S. C. Sixty members of the Marion County Rainbow Veterans’ Association will attend the national convention of Rainbow Veterans at Columbia, S. C., July 14, 15, 16, it was announced at June meeting Wednesday evening. Veiled Prophets who were in the division were guests Wednesday. Delegates will be elected July 9.
