INDIANA DELEGATE PRESENTS PLANK AGAINSTKITKLUX Klan Denounced, but Not Mentioned by Name in Declaration. By C. A. RANDAU, Times Staff Correspondent NEW YORK, June 24. —Except for mentioning the K. K. K. by name, Indiana attempted to insert in 'the Democratic platform a plank roundly denouncing the organization for its I interference with civil and religious liberty. William H. O'Brien of Lawrence- j burg. Ind., member of the platform committee, presented the-plank, and strongly urged its adoption. To i strengthen his case, O'Brien concen- ! trated all his efforts on this one plank. Here it is in full: “Freedom and liberty. The Democratic party has a glorious history; it came into being with the Declaration of Independence and the making of our Constitution, both of : which are the products of the hearts | and brains of Democrats; they ex-1 press the hopes and aspirations of a j free people and are safeguards of our liberties. “This day the Democratic party rededicates itself to the support and preservation of the fundamental principles that underlie our Government as announced and established by its founders,. Especially at this time do we call attention to. express our approval of and pledge our support to the articles of the Federal Constitution which provide: “ ‘But no religious test shall ever be required as qualification to any office or public trust under the constitution of the United States.' “Our party holds with Jefferson, ‘the most sacrefl duties of government is to do equal and exact justice to all its citizens,* and we hold that it is the duty of every loyal citizen to uphold the law of the land and to promote respect for our courts. “The laws of our land are ample and our courts have adequate power to fully protect every citizen in the enjoyment of his God-given right of justice, equality ?.id liberty. No organization has the right to set itself above the law and the courts “We deplore all effort, no matter from what source it may spring, which has for its purpose the nullification of the supreme law of the land. We condemn all efforts to stir up race and class hatreds, and the creation of dissension amongst our people. “We believe in civil and religious | liberty and we condemn the efforts j of our opponents to make religion. | race, color or accidental place of j birth and political purpose of divert : ing the voters’ attention from .ssues that are real and legitimate.’* FLIERS ON WAY AGAIN Americans Make Another Jump in Round-the-World Flight Bu I'nited Press CALCUTTA, India, June 25.
