STEPHENSON QUITS AS KLAN MEMBER Old Man Says He'll Do ‘No More Kluxing.’ Declaring he would do “no more kluxing under the Georgia banner of William Gibbs McAdoo,” D. C. Stephenson, ex-grand dragon and known as the “old man,” todaty announced his resignation from the Ku-Klux Klan. Stephenson inferred in his statement that activities of Imperial Wizard Evans here and at the Republican convention at Cleveland were for the purpose of defeating Senator James E. Watson in his efforts to secure the vice presidential nomination. Evans was quoted as indorsing Watson at the Cleveland convention, but later denied the pro-Watson statement put out over his hafne and said Milton Elrod, in charge of Klan publicity, issued the statement. Stevenson said: “I will retain my position with the honorable men of the North.” He has been named grand dragon of the insurgent faction of the Indiana Klan, and in a recent statement declared the Indiana Klan under his leadership did not believe in the program of antiCatholicism and anti-Jew as promulgated by the national body. Stevenson has said stops were under way to change the name of the Indiana organization. BUILDING ON DECREASE May building contracts in Indiana amounted to $7,224,000, according to F. W. Dodge Corporation. This was a decrease of 30 per cent from April and of 45 per cent from May 1923. The May figure brought the total amount of construction started in Indiana during the first five months of this year up to $40,755,900, compared with for the first five montjis of ltret year, a decrease of 16 per cent. “Attack” Is Explain'd Russell Money, 147 N. Highland Ave., told police he had been attacked by several men at Highland Parlf. An officer at the park explained to police he had had trouble with Money and asked young men there to assist him in keeping him out.
