ALBANIA MAY GET REPUBLIC OUI OP REVOLT / Murder of Young Leader Causes Party to \ Rebell,' By Vnitrd Press ROME, June 4.—Success of the Albanian nationalist revolution probably means final defeat of the party which sought to establish a monarchy and that Albania will become a republic. Nationalists who favor a republic revolted against the present government because they held It responsible for the assassination of the young Republican leader, Amet. The latter had previously assassinated Essad Pacha in Paris as a part of his efforts on behalf of Republican form of government, and upon his return to Albania he was murdered. The aim of the current revolution therefore was to oust these held responsible for Amet’s death and to establish a temporary regime favor able to a republic pending a plebscite to decide definitely upon a form of government desired by the people. Italy, keeping a watchful eye on developments and her interests, does not intend to act as long as the revolution keeps within its present limits. The Italian government regards the revolution merely as a struggle between political parties, according to traditional Albanian methods, the latter being to secure control of the government. If the latter insurgent national ists now occupy Tiana, capitol, it is all the same to Italy. In a purely domestic affair such as this, the attitude of Italy is such as that of the United States may be toward a revolution in one of the Latin-American countries.
FAI MEN BETTER FOR HOI WORK THANTHIN ONES Test Made in * Pittsburgh Shows 90 Degrees Fahrenheit Is the Limit, i That the human body, in a state of rest and in still air, can not endure indefinitely a temperature higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit with 100 per cent relative humidity has been determined by Department of Interior investigators at the Pittsburgh Experimental Station of the Bureau of Mines, cooperating with the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers. In the course of the tests it was noted that the heavier ar.d stouter men in the experiments, when subjected to uncomfortably hot temperatures, lost more weight than the lighter and thinner men, but as a rule could endure such temperatures for a longer period and complained ’ess of the exhaustion which followed. Subjects Lose Weight Loss of weight in the subjects experimented with gradually increased with an increase in atmospheric temperature. Whenever the subject drank ice water he immediately gained in weight, and in all cases the subject, -within twenty-four hours, usually regained the entire weight lost. Subjects who drank ice water freely after exposure to high temperatures felt no ill effects, tending to disprove the assumption that such action develops severe cramps. It was found that the exhaustion and weakness following subjection of human beings to a very high temperature and humidity for a short period is not so severe as subjection to a moderately high temperature and humidity for a longer period. Pulse Rate Effected The pulse rate, rather than the rise in body temperature, apparently determines the extent of the discomfort experienced by the subject. Subjects became very uncomfortable after the pulse rate exceeded 136 pulsations per minute, and complained of unbearable and distressing symptoms when the pulse exceeded 160 per minute. The highest pulse rate recorded was 184 per minute. Subjection to high temperatures and humidities produced no marked change in the respiratory rate. MARRIED FOR 74 YEARS Pension Office Unearths Unusual Record for Marital Continuity. By Times Special WASHINGTON, June 4.—A record for matrimonial continuity—a little less than seventy-five years—has been found by the pension office in the application for a pension filed by Mrs. Lydia A, Hunt of Green Harbor, Mass., wife of Robert S. Hunt. Civil War veteran, who died last March at the age of 96. Investigation prior to the award of S6O a month to Mrs. Hunt, who is 91, revealed that the couple had lived together continuously, except for the four years Hunt served with the 23d Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, for seventy-four years eight months and thirteen days. Married on Nov. 26, 1849, the Hunts spent the entire three score and a half years in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Despite the tens of thousands of wild elephants in Africa, no exploier yet has come upon the carcass of a dead beast that has died in its, tracks from natural causes. .

BUYS ROYAL RUG Chinese Ruler, Hard Up, Sells Antique Treasure. By Times Special NEW YORK. June 3. —James F. Ballard of St. Louis, who has given a half million dollars' worth of Oriental rugs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has arrived from China with the finest antique imperial Chinese rug he has ever seen. He traveled more than 30,000 miles to obtain it from the Emperor of China in his shut-in palace in Pekin. Mr. Ballard sailed Jan. 19 from New | York and returned here May 23 with j his treasure, which, though only J twelve feet square, is valued at from j SIO,OOO to $12,000. The precious rug was woven about j 1736 and has been in Chinese im- ! perial palaces ever since It would still be there if the youthful Em | peror had not found it so difficult to j support his immense household with | his reduced income. A friend of Mr. ; Ballard in China wrote him of the ; Emperor's need of money, and Mr. Ballard, feeling that the time was i ripe for satisfying his dream of sev- 1 enteen years of securing an incomparable imperial rug, at once set j out for Pekin. The rug is in New York now' at the studio of a well-known artist. To the lover of color it is a rare j gem. The square is a blaze pf yellow's ranging from soft, pale old gold to deep apricot and then to the burning tones of old Chinese amber, broken here and there by ultramarine and pale turquoise hlues, which throw' the glow of apricot and amber Into high relief.
