LAWYERS GATHER FROM JWO STATES AT TERRE HAUTE President of Indiana Association Warns Against Changes, By United Press TERRE HAUTE, Ind., May 28. James T. Moran, Portland, president of the Indiana Bar Association and Roger Sherman of Chicago, president of the Illinois association, were the principal speakers at the opening business sessions of the twoState convention in session here, today and tomorrow. The keynote for the session was sounded by President Moran, when he took a stand against radical tendencies to change the Federal Constitution. Urges Course in Schools The Constitution was written, he declared, by some of the best minds America has ever produced, whose logic and learning has never been unsurpassed, "yet there are those who believe that many of the substantial principles of the Constitution shoujd be set aside to suit the fancy of a very small minority." Attorney Moran cited such moves as to restrict or abolish power of the courts to supervise legislation and decide whether it conflicts with the Constitution. He advocated a course of study on the Constitution in schools and colleges as a means to deflect radical changes. Would Raise Standards President Sherman in his speech urged that the authority of the State be placed behind bar associations in order to raise the educational and ethical standards of the law profession. Nearly 800 attorneys are attending the sessions, which will close tomorrow with the election of officers for the two sessions. Tuesday there was two joint sessions, while those of Thursday will be separated. Today's speakers included Flora Thompson, judge of the Illinois Supreme Court; Robert Fletcher, Chicago, and the two State presidents.

BABE-IN-ARMS BANDIT REFUSES RELEASE ON BAIL Girl-Mother Says She Is Afraid She’ll Kill Herself if Freed.* By United Press FARMINGTON, 111., May 28. “Keep me in jail, I'm afraid I’ll kill myself,” said pretty Norma Anderson, 17, held in jail here today on the charge of holding up and robbing the Steenburg Bank of Farmington, with her baby in her anils, and fleeing with $1,500. When she was seized at Hanna City, after a fast automobile ride, Norma simply' said the bank owed her money. The girl, who lives on a farm about three miles from here, entered the bank and ordered Isaac Steenburg, cashier, to hand over his money. The girl had a handkerchief over her face. The baby was balanced on one arm. Steenburg thought she was joking and laughed. Norma then pushed her revolver a little closer and demanded that he turn over the cash on the counter. i?teenl>urg pushed over the money The girl seized it, and. running to the street, forced David Settles, son of the town marshal, to drive her out of town. In the meantime Steenburg gave the alarm and Marshal Settles entered another car and citizens in other machines gave chase. Norma kept her revolver pointed at young Settles until the car reached Hanna City when she ordered him to step. As she leaped from the car, the pursuing automobiles arrived and the girl was captured after a short struggle. 1 DEATH NOTICES MULLIN. GLADYS BENSON—Beloved wife of Ross Muffin.
