KLAN FIGHT ON IN DEMOCRATIC DISTRICT MEET Hot Battle for Chairmanship in Meeting at _ Peru, A Kl&n and anti-Klan fight developed today In the Democratic district meeting at Peru, according to reports from the Eleventh district city. Ex-Senator Ora King, Sweetser, is said to have backing of Klan factions as against Robert Battin, Marion attorney. At a caucus this morning Mike Fansler, Logan sport, and E. E. Cox, Hartford City, declared they had no doubt Battin, who is the “regular” candidate, will be elected the district chairman. Democratic leaders in the district sent out an "S O S” to State headquarters at the Claypool when the flgflht developed into a crisis this morning. “There is an undercurrent that don’t look good. Although King claims he is not a Klinsman, he was formerly connected with the organization,” Cox I3 quoted as saying. According to reports from the district, the Republican Klan leader in Miami County is heading the move to defeat Battin. An unusual proceeding in the meeting is that vice county chairmen -will be allowed to vote with the county chairmen. County chairmen in the district

MRS. ROSA Cok Effects of a past illness was believed responsible for the weakened condition of Mrs. Rosa Cox, 23, of 1205 Bacon St., who died of fright when a stove she was tending exploded. Mrs. Cox had opened the stove door when the explosion occurred. She turned and screamed to her husband, Emmett Cox, ‘‘lt’s—it’s blood red,” then .fell over dead. BUTLER STAND SCORED Indiana Disciples Protest His Statement on Prohibition. By United Press , RUSHVILLE, Ind., May 18.—A resolution protesting against stand of Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, president of Columbia University, on prohibition was forwarded trt trfe trustees of the university today by the Christian churches of Indiana.
