George Cohan Sends Great Dancing Show to English s
P By WALTER D. HICKMAN l~ 1 REGULAR George M. Cohan I A I show is now on view at English's. “Little Nellie Kelly” is the name of this fast stepping show. Everybody owns dancing feet in this Cohan show. The Cohan touch is felt and seen every second. This man Cohan knows how ;4f' Yankee Doodle kick In every | He plans his ISRri ' phows alor.g typ: cal Cohan lines. At times you expect to sea some id body wave a flag or yell right out in the middle of a song. It is this element of sur— I : ' ■ prise that gives ▼arie t y to a FRANCES Cohan show. And MILNER “Little Nellie Kelly” is .no exception to the rule. Cohan is responsible for the words and music. It is really a musical travesty on mystery plays. Even the idea is new. Never have I seen so much dancing in any one show for many moons, and it is real dancing. Everybody dances in this show. One has to be a good hoofer to even get started in this show. Cohan has sen! a mighty fine cast to English's. Among the leads are Norma Teriss as the girl; Lester Cole as Jerry Conroy: Marion Fairbanks. Arthur Cunningham. Cedric Lindsay, Carolyn Lilja. Joe Smith Marba, Clay Hill, Eddie Girard. Frances Milner and Shelby Galloway, two real dancers. and numerous others. Miss Teriss and Cole handle the

song hit number, “You Remind Me of My Mother,” in great style in the second act. It stops the show. It is a corking sentiment number, splendidly put across. Cedric Lindsay and Hazel Mason also aid in the dancing. Miss Teriss makes Nellie a little too sweet, but the sweeter she acts the better the audience seems to like her. Cole cannot only put over a song number, but he knows how to dance. He owns a pair of wicked dancing feet. The New York police number reminds one of a Sousa march. It has a real swing to it. The entire company joins in* on the number, ‘‘Till My Luck Comes Rolling Along,” and the result is a dancing spree. This is an intimate show, so much show that Miss Teriss asked the audience if they wanted to hear It again. “Little Nellie Kelly” is one of the fastest and best all-’round dancing shows that English’s has had this season. You can buy this show with perfect safety. The cast is a real, one. Every one is a hard worker. My advice is—don’t miss “Little Nellie Kelly” at English's today and Saturday. -I* -I- -I- } BEAUTIFUL GOWNS GRACE ACT ON NEW PALACE BILL The Palace this week-end is presenting probably the best dressed act it has had all season. Am speaking of ‘.‘The Son Dodger,” with Harry Coleman and numerous women who appear in marvelous | gowns. The big number of this little musical comedy is a radium gown number, which cyn pares favorably with such scenes in the big revues. These radium gowns cost a wad of money. It is safe to say that a nice
fortune is tied up in these gowns alone. The entire act is well costumed. It is well mounted. The girls are easy on the eye. Maxine and Bobby open the show. Bobby is a trained dog. As I stated during another season, this dog has been wonderfully trained along acrobatic ‘and comedy lines. A really remarkable dog. Bob Alexander and Ruth Elmore go in for eccentric fun. The man has a comedy sneeze which gets the laughs. He works along the lines of a nut comedian. Combe |tnd Nevins, a pianist and a singer, come mighty near walking away with the merit as well as the applause honors of the bill. They know how to sing a song and they have chosen their songs with a fine sense of showmanship. Ned Nestor with the assistance of two girls present "So This Is Ireland.” Here is a pretty harmless little song and dance affair built around the old tradition of kissing the Blarney stone. Rather well done. Act pleases. The' movie feature is “Average Woman” with Pauline Garon and Harrison Ford. At the Palace today, Saturday and Sunday.
