COUNTY OFFICIALS DENY HOLDING UP WORKONBRIDGE Commissioners Say Contract for Fall Creek Structure Never Signed. Peseta the fact that a contract to build a bridge over Fall Creek at Delaware St. was accepted by*' county commissioners Dec. 19, 1923, and as yet not a spade has been lifted on the job. Commissioners Albert Hoffman and John Kitley today denied any intention of holding up the work. “We never have signed the formal contract.” they said. "Russell .1 Rvan, county attorney, sent the pa pers to M. E. White & Cos.. Chicago, awarded the contract for $172,336.08. They have not been returned.” The commissioners' record for March 3, 1924, shows the "said contract was signed during the year 1923 by John Kitley. and Albert Hoffman signed the contract March 3, 1924. “That's wrong,”, both said. "We have not approved the record.” The Delaware St. bridge was first held up by the county council until the city engineer's department promised to build anew bridge over White River at Kentucky Ave.. immediately. A bond issue of $210,000 was approved. Since then nothing has been heard of the river bridge. The next hitch came when county commissioners learned that the city engineer’s office had approved plans for eliminating a “jog" at TwentySecond and Delaware Sts., that would leave a Sinclair Oil Company filling station as an “Island" in the intersection. The improvement was being done in connection with the new bridge. Commissioners held up plans again.

All apparently was smoothed out when city officials showed anew plan, whereby a little park will be built at the point of the old intersection. Under the plan, Delaware St. would be split into a “Y” about 300 feet north of the jog, one branch going to Twen-ty-Second and Delaware Sts. and the other to Twenty-Second and Alabama Sts., the park to be In the triangularshaped plot between. 23 BELIEVED DROWNED Japanese Sailors Go Down When Cargo Boat Is Rammed. ‘SOLUTION OF ALL PROBLEMS RESTS IN DIVINE MIND’ William W, Porter Speaks on Christian Science at Murat Theater, “The solution of every problem exists In the divine Mind,” declared William W. Porter, C. S. 8., of New York, lecturer of the Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Mays., in his address, "Salvation for Humanity,” at the Murat Theater Tuesday night. "Because of this,” said the speaker, “the nature of the divine Mind must be recognized to be identical with infinite Love. That Is reasonable, Is it not? Hence the activity of the divine Mind exists, as the law of Love, alike for every person. On page 17 of the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, one of the most concise statements of this law Is found In these words, “Love Is reflected In love." Here is a definite statement of unimpeachable law. Founder Under Difficulty "To present here a recital of the life and works of Mrs. Eddy would take more time than we have at our disposal. Such a recital would naturally include the details of how Mrs. Eddy founded and developed Chris tlan Science In the face of -what seemed to be overwhelming odds and opposition. "It would Include the history of how Science and Health was written and published—an Incident filled with startling unfoldment as well as the proof of marvelous protection. / "It would tell of how a church was
A LATE bulletin issued by the Bureau of Mines points ' out that 1923 established anew high record in gasoline production in the United States, reaching 7,555,945,143 gallons — an increase over 1922 of 21.83%. The National Petroleum News prints an estimate that the probable requirements during 1924 will be 8,236,617,000 gallons of gasoline. Unless the 1924 output of gasoline shall more than equal the high record of 1923, the supply will fall short of the demand by at least 780,617,857 gallons. It is a well-established fact that crude production has declined sharply, California alone shows a falling off from the 1923 high mark of more than 200,000 barrels a day. Manifestly only those refiners who can extract the greatest yield of gasoline from a given quantity of crude oil are in position to render a major service under existing circumstances. During the past several years processes have been developed in the laboratories of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), by means of which this Company is able to recover a greater yield of gasoline from a given quantity of crude. i The benefits derived from the operation of these processes accrue directly to the advantage of the motoring public, because the increased yield secured by the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) exerts a marked deterrent influence on the price you pay for a gallon of gasoline. organised, and later reorganized Into The First Church of Christ, Scientist, The Mother Church, in Boston, Mass., with Its branches extending Into all parts of the civilized globe. Activities Are Wide "It would set forth the organization of various church activities and related Interests: the editing and publishing of weekly and monthly periodicals; the founding of a College and a Board of Education to perpetuate the correct teachings of Christian Science; the establishment of a dally newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, which has been pronounced by representative men and women to be the Ideal of ascendant Journalism: the formation of a system of church government, the Manual of The Mother Church, which has won the admiration and the commendation of the brightest judicial thinkers of the times. Mrs. Eddy's life-work will stand as an enduring monument depicting fearlessness and faith, and pointing human thought with infinite tenderness to the compassion)te and sheltering nature of God. Revelation of God Truly, if men are to believe in God, then must God be revealed to men as something other than a mystery. God must be revealed to the understanding. The Scripture says. "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which Is In the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18). God. the divine Principle of man, can not bo known through the physical senses. In Christian Science God is known through the spiritual idea, or Christ, which reveals the otc-rnal Principle of the universe and man. . In Christian Science, as one turns his thought intelligently and in the prayer of pure desire toward God, he closes out of his consciousness the lie about his business, about hia health, or about anything olse, and when this Is done the law of God begins to operate In his behalf, and Christ, the true Idea of God, governs his business, his health, and aii things that are to him related.
IftP Cooling* System Should Be Carefully Inspected i Before Warm Weather Arrives
During the cold weather, you have probably been using an antifreeze solution, and they usually have a certain amount of effect on the rubber of the hose connections. In addition to this the hot water circulating through them, has a tendency to rot the rubber. The outside of the hose
connections may look all right, but if the car has seen very much service, the rubber skin Inside the hose may have rotted and curled up, so obstructing the free flow of water through the cooling system. It is a good Investment to remove both upper and. lower hose connections each season and renew them. You are then sure that they will give no trouble by leaking or obstructing the flow of water through the circulating system later in the season. If there is any mud or dirt between the fins of the radiator, take a hose with a good strong pressure behind it and flush through radiator from the isar. Before you do this, however, cover up the spark plus and Ignition
system so that these parts will not get wet. Now start the engine and If convenient take a run for a mile or so, then

be able to slide thee fan pulley on the belt by pressing down with a moderate pressure on a Tan blade. If It slips around too easily, you will find an
adjustment that will enable you to Increase the tension on the belt until it Is correct. The belt should be inspected about once a month, and the fan bearing lubricated about once a week. If your cooling system is of the Thermo-Syphon type, the above Is all the attention It will require to put It in first class condition. If, however, you have a pump to circulate the water, fill the radiator nearly full, then start the engine and observe to see if the water In the radiator bubbles or churns when the engine is runring. If it shows no sign of movement, then have it examined by a good mechanic, as it is possible that the key holding the impeller blades on the pump shaft Is
sheared, and the water is not circulating. This trouble is generally caused when the water in the cooling system freezes, then when the engine is started, aa the impeller blades are frozen solid and cannot move, something has to go, and it Is usually the key in the pump shaft. If the water is circulating all right, then examine to see that the pump glands are not leaking. If they are, tighten the packing nut. Be careful In doing this, however, that you do not tighten it too much or you may cause the shaft to bind and cut, and the pump will then leak worse than ever. If you find you cannot stop the leak by tightening the packing nuts, then the glands will have to be repacked. To do this, unscrew the packing nut and wind a few Inches of hemp that has been soaked in graphite grease around the shaft, then tighten the packing nut. If you notice that the shAft has a series of rings where the packing goes, then It ijiay be necessary to fit anew shaft to make & good Job. NEXT WEEK—THE IGNITION SVBTEM AND WHAT TO INSPECT IN IT.
