I have but to point to my June. 1923. sale, when I sold seventy head selected from the herd, not Including any of the best animals, either stock herd bulls or matrons, at an average price of $520 each.” Farms Below Price In discussing the sale of the farmland the Governor pointed out it was eonsiderab' y below the price at which the property has been valued for taxation. Wagner Music Masterfully Directed by Fritz Reiner
By WALTER D. HICKMAN Rather want to yell with joy. Well, why don’t you yell? If that is the way you feel about it, here goes. Ona B. Talbot has done it at last. She has dreamed for years of giving Indianapolis an a.ll-Wagner program played by a real orchestra, directed by a master and increased in interest by the presence of a famous singer of Wagner music. It takes nerve to have dreams like that. It takes even backbone because jUch dreams to realize means the spending of a lot of money. First, she had to cultivate an orchestral public. That was the first big job. And she won. The near capacity house at the Murat last night helped Mrs. Talbot realize her dream. Fritz Reiner as director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (increased to a hundred men) won the greatest ovac tion of the season. The tributes to Reiner and his men came after the playing of the march from "Tannhauser” and “Ride of the Valkyries.” Here was careful, intelligent and marvelous directing on part of Reiner and as wonderful playing by members of the orchestra. Here was perfect music if I have ever heard perfect melody. Give Mrs. Talbot Credit I am going back behind the scenes for a minute and hand a bunch of flowers to Mrs. Talbot. I was afraid that Indianapolis might pass up this great Wagner program. But we don’t have to worry about this great city. We buy the real article when we want it, and It must he the real article A marvelous audience from the standpoint of numbers and quality was present. I consider It a tribute to Mrs. Talbot as well as the program. Mrs. Talbot means a great deal to musioa,! Indianapolis, if she had both of her eyes only on the box office figures, she never would take 'a plunge In orchestral concerts. She wants to make It possible to give us real orchestral music. In this she Is a great and honest civic leader. Every' one that patronizes her concerts aid In making such marvelous programs possible Am not afraid in publicly- felling you about the real service of Mrs. Talbot and her Fine Arts Association. Introducing Emmy Krueger A good deal of the Interest centered upon Emmy Krueger, dramatic soprano, who made her first appear ance In America at the Murat last night. She only arrived last week from the old country. Madame Krueger puts drama Into her voice and Wagner's music gave her that chance. It seemed to me that we really felt the heartbeats of this woman's artistry when she sang a group of songs, “Cease,” “Dreams'' and "Pains.” She has a voice of much volume. At all times she showed an Perfection Batter Makra Kiddie* Grow.—Adr

intimate knowledge of the demands of the score. At first she showed signs (or at least to me) of nervousness, but she soon conquered that and proved her value as a great singer.
