NOVELIST SCORED AS WORKING HARM WITH‘BLACK OXEN’ Authority Says Rejuvenation Is Myth and Elderly Women Driven to ‘Quacks,' By United Pres CHICAGO, March 21.—Gertrude Atherton, famout novelist, is working great harm to the womanhood of America by holding out “false hopes’’ of recapturing youth, Dr, Max Thorek, surgeon-in-chief of the American Hospital and leading authority on gland transplantation, charged today. Through her novel, “Black Oxen” and the moving picture based on the book. Miss Atherton is driving elderly women to quacks who do more injury than good. Dr. Thorek stated. Rejuvenation Is Myth There is no such thing as rejuvenation. Dr. Thorek declared. “The lady is messing about in matters concerning which she is ignorant.” Dr. Thorek said. “Unwittingly, perhaps, she is doing a lot of harm. I have read her novel, ‘Black Oxen,’ and have seen the picture made from it.
