JUDGE ANDERSON TAKES ISSUE WITH F. WAYNE JURIST Resents Comment in Arguments Over Proposed Hickey Court Bill. Tim< ■* Washington Bureau, liii Acm; York Ave. WASHINGTON, March 21.—Resenting comments by former Judge John Jlggeman of Ft. concerning the conduct of his court. Federal Judge A. B. Anderson Thursday interrupted tne hearing before the Senate Committee, whch is considering creation <f two district judgeships in Indiana, to say he had not come to Washington u> have his judicial decisions passed under review. When Eggeman emphatically denied he had intended to criticise Judge Anderson and had merely attempted to show the congestion of cases, Anderson replied his court had practically no ;ases pending. Anderson said he hadn’t heard a case for past two weeks and was in no hurry to be excused by the committee. . Presents No Brief Anderson supplemented ife statement, “I have nothing to say to the committee. I came here only because I was subpoenaed, and while I am ready to answer all questions, I have no desire to present any brief either for or against the measure.” The principal point they made with the Senators was the need for court sessions in various parts of Indiana though members of the committee did not appear to be impressed with the argument that it was necessary to divide the State into two distinct sections. Senator Shortridge's questions indicated he thought the bill might be improved by providing either for two judgeships far the entire State without creating separate districts or simplifying division by drawing a straight line across the State along the southern line of Clinton County, or possibly even a little farther south. Senator Ralston addressed the gathering for a few moments and stated while he had not made up his mind as to the meed of the new judgeship, he wanted it thoroughly established if the present arrangement had at any time made difficult the administration of justice. Ralston for Justice Ralston said he would prefer not to have been faced by the court problem, but now that it had arisen he wanted it decided in public interest. Judge Anderson interjected that the main complaint in Indiana now was not against law’s delay, but against the speed with which cases were disposed of and cited Gary and Ft. Wayne conspiracy cases as instances where complaints were made against his speedy action.
