WHITMAN COMPANY STORE PURCHASED New York Firm Buys Local Ready-to-Wear House, The S. B. Whitman Company cloak and suit house, 21 N. Illinois St., has been purchased by the W. H. Barlott Company, New York, operating- a chain of women's ready-to-wear shops. Irving Whitman and Leo Stotter, New York, will be in charge. S. B. Whitman, the founder, will retire. The store was established by him in 1912., The three-story building will be remodeled and leased to the New York firm. The Vermillion County grand jury is investigating three murders. The alleged slayers are John Rolando of Ngedmore, and Mike Vukovich and George Nicora, Clinton. All are In jail at Newport without bond. The Madison County Anti-Tubercu-losis Society ask citizens of the State to suggest a name for the county’s new tuberculosis hospital- It will b dedicated early in ApriL > The Connersville Gymnasium Association has been organized to provide a gymn for the local high school. BEST HOMES RENT FORMA ROOM Real Estate Board Reports Housing Cost Steady, Rent for single family dwellings in the most desirable locations, according to a Real Estate Board report, averages sl2 a room a month. The report showed that 16 2-3 per cent of the rental is absorbed by taxation. Middle class property rents for $9 per room a month and the cheapest class at $5 per room a month, with 15 per cent going for taxes. The figures are to be submitted to the National Real Estate Board. The report says rents here have remained static for the past year and probably will not decrease for some time. ANIMATED BIRTHDAY CAKE Camp Fire Girls to Celebrate Their Twelfth Anniversary. An "animated birthday cake,” made up of twelve girls will feature the Indianapolis Camp Fire Girls' twelfth anniversary Saturday afternoon in the social service house, 2446 W. Ohio St. About 400 girls are expected to attend. Mas. O. E. McMeans will be in charge. Mrs. McMeans. executive secretary, and Miss Ruth Dinwiddie, 520 Hamilton Ave.. will represent the girls in the first national convention of Camp Fire Girls at Kansas City, March 29 to April 5.
ZONING DECISION PUT OFF Board to Vote March 25 on Completion of Temple. J. Clyde HOffman, attorney for the board of 7-oning appeals, is investigating legal phases of construction of the Beth El -temple, Thirty-Fourth and Ruckle Sts. Crawfordsyille lodge of Eagles have arranged a dinner as part of celebration of their nineteentn anniversary, Wednesday night. Clayton Rice, charged with robbing the Lewisburg State Bank last May 1, will be retried in Montgomery Circuit Court. March 17. His last trial in December lasted twenty-three days. The jury disagreed.
