CITY PAYS $27.90. MS A FAMILY TO STATE IN 1924 Figure Exclusive of Automobile License and • Gasolfne,Note—Tbts is one of a senes of articles on Indiana taxes and tax problems. By FELIX F. BRUNER Indianapolis will contribute $27.90 a family in direct taxes alone to the support of the State government this year. This is exclusive of automobile license fees, gasoline tax and similar forms of taxation. Indianapolis, on the basis of present property valuation, tnlrecontribute a total of $1,898,754.80 to the State, as compared with $1,021,821.26'in 1919, an increase of $5*>.933.54 in six years. Most of the increase has been added during the last three years. The Igst article discussed money paid to the "general fund and to the benevolent institution fund. Another big item in State taxes is the school tuhlan fund, which really is returned to the counties to help pay teaching expenses. The amount contributed by the city to this fund has been fairly uniform. This year it will be $460.016.66. The lowest it hae fallen in the last six years was in 1920, when the city paid $333,T86.03. College Expense Grows Expense of State colleges is growing. This year Indianapolis wiM contribute $308,975.47 to their support. In 1919 the city paid only $193,614,68.. Another school fund which is comparatively small is the vocational fund. The city will pay $3<T,597.54 to this fund this year.
