PRISON MATRON IS EULOGIZED BY REV. GEORGE W. ALLISON Funeral Services for Mur- _ dered Woman Held at Lafayette. "While her confessed slayer, Glayds Martha Ellis, sat alone in her cell at the county jail Saturday, Miss Louise Richards 70, killed Monday night at tne Indiana Woman’s Prison, where she was a teachor. was enlogized as a friend of wayward girls and a martyr 10 her principles. Only close friends and a niece. Mrs. Anna Glover of. New Mexico, attended private services at the Bert S. Gadd chapel, 2130 Prospect St. The body was to be taken to Lafayette for further brief services and burial this afternoon. ■*. True to Tradition •‘Miss Richards died, as she lived, true to the traditions of her family.’’ the Rev. George William Allison, pas tor of the Irvington Presbyterian Church, said. “She was a lineal, as well as a spiritual, descendant of Ethan Allan, the patriot. She possessed both the piety and the courage of Stonewall Jackson, on the other side of her family, whose motto wqs. Do your duty and leave the rest to Providence.’ ‘‘Surprised in her room, she was obedient to duty. The easy thing would have been to surrender her keys and allow her prisoner to escape. Her courageous decision was noto the act of a single instant, but the result of a long life of self-dis-cipline. “Father, Forgive Her" "Nowhere will her unhappy end strike a deeper note of pathetic sympathy than among present and former inmate# of the prison, many of whom were singularly attached to her and appreciated her sympathetic under-standing--and unfailing courtesy. "And while. In the interests of society, the unfortunate. girl must pay the penalty of her act. I believe Miss Richards was noble enough to have prayed with Christ, ’Father, forgive her, for she knows not what she does.’ ” t , NEW STATEHOUSE JANITOR Indianapolis Man Will Succeed Evansville Appointee. Anew discovery which, experts agree, has no equal for curative effects in all rupture cases, is the latest acomplishment of Dr. Andrews, 623 H Koch Bldg., Kansas City. Mo. The extraordinary success of this new method proves that it holds and heals a rupture. It weighs only a few ounces. Has no hard gouging pads, no elastic belt, no leg straps, no*steel bands, and is as comfortable as a light garment. It has enabled hundreds of persons to throw away trusses and declare their rupture absolutely healed. Many of th~se had seiious double ruptures, from which they had suffered for years. Jt is Dr. Andrews' ambition to have every ruptured person enjoy quick relief, comfort and healing power of his discovery, and he will send It on free trial to any one who writes him. He wants one person in each neighborhood to whom he can refer. If yot wish to be rid of rupture for good, without an operation, take advantage of the doctor's free offer. DR.SCHUH SCORES BAO FAITH ON PART OF POLITICIANS Church Leader Says in Sermon There Should Be One Moral Standard, "If every officer in the National Capital had acted as a Christian and 'lived up to his solemn oath, there would be no Teapot Dome investigations, 1 ’ Dr. H. J. Schuh, president of tire western district of the Ohio Synod of the Lutheran Church said Sunday, in a sermon at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. "Many of these men,” he said,,"who are now on trial for their honesty are professing Christians. The trouble with us is that we have a double standard of morality, one for Sundays and another for week days, one for the church and another for politics.” Dr. Schuh in preaching on “Church Work, a Man's Job,” urged that “if we are interested in church work, let us show it by carrying our Christianity with us into every avenue of everyday Mfe.” Man and Woman Have Their Work to I>o in the Church Continuing, he said: “Christianity has elevated wopian to the highest level which #he has ever occupied in the history of the world. The old heathen philosophers were in doubt as to whether women had souls and among heathen nations today women are considered and treated as chattel property. “But the Gospel of Christ has placed woman to her proper place as the helpmeet of man. She is his equal in the enjoyment of all the spiritual blessings of the Kingdom. “A real red-blooded man is not looking for art easy job. He is ready to leave the easy tasks to women and children. But for himself h# is looking for something that is commensurate with his superior powers. The work of the church is the biggest and most difficult task in the world. “It is a big job to make the world more learned more sanitary, more civil and more beautiful, hut the biggest job of all is to make the world really better, to regenerate men and and change the whole course of their lives, to change their hearts, to bring them hack into right relation to God and their fellow men, “And this is the work in which tb“ church is engaged. It includes not one city, state or nation, but ! the Masters' command reads ‘Go ye into all the world and make disciples of all nations.' There can be no bigger task than this. This ia something really worth while. To save' perishing men from temporal and eternal ruin. Tan anything surpass this in importance and magnitude? Task of the Church Ik Biggest Fight ill World “But the task of the church is the ’’biggest fight in the world also and on that Recount it should appeal to men. It is said of women that they are great scrappers but when you are after a real fight you must call ion the men. Even among savages it j lias been looked upon as the proper Lihing that men should do the fighting ! they are the soldiers. “During the recent war we called not women, hut men into the trenches. All these millions of soldiers were men. All wars have ostensibly been waged in the interest of liberty. But in the spiritual warfare which the church is waging the question at issue is real liberty, freedom from sin, the glorious liberty of the children of God. “The question is whether you and your wife and your children and your neighbors are to be slaves of the devil 'or free children of God. It is the fight of light against darkness, of truth against error, of righteousness against sin. “This fight has been on for six thousand years. In It have been en gaged all the millions that live today that have lived from the creation and that will live to the end of time. Yes, all the angels of heaven and all devils of hell. If you as a man are looking for a flgl., that Is really worth while here it is," Dr. Schuh said.
