THREE NEW BUICKS INCLUDED IN LINE OFFERED AT SHOW Cut-Away Chassis to Graphically Show Car’s Mechanism, Three new Buick models and a stripped, cut-away chassis will feature r fce exhibit of the Buick Motor Company at the show. The new cars exhibited will include the Country Club Special, the town car and a five . issenser limousine. The Country Club Special is’finished :n Buick sage green with, dark orange -tripping and a special compartment •r golf clubs. The town car has a blacky hood with a light green body. The limousine was developed for those who employ a chauffeur. A glass inclosure •eparates the driver from the seating , ompartment. Cut-Away Chassis Shown The cut-away chassis shows plainly the entire mechanism of the Buick. :r.cjj:dir.g the four wheel brak-s and <iher exclusive Buick features. There are no less than ninety-seven ew features in the 191’4 Buick sirnd approximately fifty in the four < ylinder Buick. The 1924 models, while mechanically quite familiar to the motoring public. . are particularly interesting to showgoers because of the great success of two striking innovations introduced in this series—namely four-wheel b:-akes and an almost entirely new en cine in the six cylinder chassis — changes in latter being equally extensive to those previously made in the four-cylinder chassis. Introduced Four-Wheel Brakes Buick was the first company m America to introduce four-whedl brakes as standard equipment on ail models and has already placed approximately 100.000 cars of this type in the hands of owners. Still to the motor-wise. Buick did an equally big thing in the revision of this year's six-cylinder engine. Buick designers have produced an infinitely more powerful, quiet and smooth running engine, although fundamentally unchanged. It still features the valve-in-head principle, just as does the four, but. has. among other things, complete automatic force feed lubrication. CAR 13 FURNISHED WITH RIGHT TIRES AT FACTORY 1 Overloading Calls for Oversized Tires If Efficiency Is Desired. The car manufacturer equips the automobile with tires the correct size nd type for the car's weight and carving capacity, and. at the same time, the tires are classed by the tire manufacturer with a specified inflation - capacity. “If,” says a tire service bulletin. ' you expect to carry excess passengers occasionally or invest in nujjierous accessories, anil if easy riding is a special desideratum, oversize tires should by all means be specified, otherwise your tires will not give you the service ordinarily expected.”—Automobile Digest. Watch Oil Grooves When adjusting bearings, always make sure that all oil grooves and oil hoies are clear. If any oil grooves appear to be too shallow on account of wearing of the bearings, the grooves should be enlarged.—Automobile Digrot .
cUnother Reason Why ■— Buick Cushions Are Comfortable On All Roads cushions on Buick open cars are supported an springs. The upper springs, light and easy acting, smooth out slight road irregularities, while the larger and stronger lowers absorb the bumps that cause the ordinary seat to “strike bottom”. Two pads of curled hair between springs and French plaited upholstery give that final softness and assure the purchaser a cushion that will stand up. . x a When better automobiles are built Buick. will build them BUICK MOTOR COMPANY, Indianapolis Branch \ WHOLESALE AND RETAIL Meridian at Thirteenth • . EYES TURN TOWARD SPRING AUTO SHOW (Continued From Page 9) Charles W. Head Studios in the decoration of the mammoth building. Read is known as one of the beet scenic artists of the middle west and won local favor at last year's show by his hatique decorations which covered nil windows and formed the background for the principal displays. Hoods' efforts this year .have taken largely the same form, but an entirely different shfipe. design and result. "Splash Motif” has been his weapon of endearment and so adroitly has he wielded it that those who have visited the building have been moved to wonder at the marvelous results obtained from dipped cloth, sprayed with a queer looking squirt gun that draws energy' from a compressed air pump. The delicate color shading is the result of artful use of aforementioned spray, but so delicately has the color scheme been achieved that the whole interior haa been transformed into a garden flooded by mellow sunshine. Whosoever goes to the show with the lurking feeling that he or she is to see only models than have long since lost their “newness” ifg bound to disappointment. Not only will every model shown be the duced by the forty-eight manufacturers. but four products will make their initiaj bow ftf Indianapolis, one of which, the Chrysler, will make its maiden appearance, as the car was not being produced at the time of the New York or Chicago showing*. Whole Industry Represented Banked in the pit and flanking the recession in each direction will be found the principal displays, while around these will cling those accessory exhibits which are ever a great source of attraction ami which have played such an overwhelming but meagerly credited part In the vancement of automotive equipage. Just what cannot be found among these probably would be a lighter task of listing than that of those which will be found. The number, size and ingenuity of them wiy draw their inspiration and production from the four winds. Music will be furnished each evening and special programs will serve as added attractions, if added attractions will be necessary, as show-goers are essentially those whose distinct interest In attending lies in the inspection of models on exhibit. Needless to mention that the' increasing and widespread use of the automobile has won and is daily winning for th> industry scores and scores of lifelong friend*. _ Ka<-h passing sunset finds new automobile own ers. possessors of that great instrument of trail portation that has made of America she greatest playground of the earth and which has won for Indiana justly deserved and scrupu-

•The Big Show I D jEOPLE of all generations are intensely interested in any I * | means of transportation they can personally own and master. Years ago it was the horse. Prize Dobbins competed at the horse show and wefe admired in stalls and applauded on the racetrack at county fairs. Other exhibits there were, but the horse furnished the Big Thrill. We still have horse shows and county fairs. But the auto lias-eclipsed the horse. The autq show, is to our generation what the exhibition of horses was to the past. Tliere are over 13 million motor cars in our country —about one fdr every nine Americans. The auto is auiecessity* We couldn't get along without it. it has brought convenience, fresh outdoor air, arfd placed the world of travel at the door of the owner. which have been greatly increased in length, and by proportionate improvements in the front springs. The new Type-B sedan has been in production several months and comments on the riding ease are particularly enthusiastic. according to the local dealers. The Type-B sedan retains the unique feature developed by Dodge Brothers When this car—the first steel closed car built—was brought out eighteen months ago. This is the removable rear seat and seat fixtures, by which a clear loading space of sixty-two cubic feet is provided. Salesmen, contractors, farmers, tourists and others havt found this to be a decided convenience. The Spanish blue leather upholstery, which has disclosed remarkable wearing qualities, is also removable. The finish, of course, is in the famous Dodge Brothers baked enamel. Business men, families with children —any one, in fact, who requires a car that will stand rough usage, will be inclined to look at this car with greater favor than ever. Moderate in price and with an enviable reputation for economy of operation and faithful performance. It represents
closed car dignity and protection at little more than open car cost. TAKE OUT RODS WHEN ADJUSTING BEARINGS Method Necessitates More Time, But Result Rewards. In Adjusting rod bearings some mechanics prefer to withdraw the pistons from the cylinders and then adjust the lower end bearing with the rod swinging free out of the lower ride of the crank case. This practice is Recommended wherever convenient, as it is -much easier to feel for the proper adjustment in this manner than when the piston is in the cylinder and it is necessary to turn the crankshaft to feel the tension. After the rod has been adjusted and the piston re-inserted in the cylinder, the side clearance between the upper end of the rod and the piston bossea should be inspected to make sure that the rod is not bearing against the piston.—Automobile Digest.

ample. It is the policy of this company to build the finest car that the tremendous resources of the Ford Motor Company will allow. This means that the finest of materials and engineering talent will go into the making of the Lincoln, and this fact is being recognized abroad, as well as in this country. European manufacturers and engineers are beginning to come to America to get patent rights and body designs. Scarcely a week passes but the Lincoln factories in Detroit are

visited by some of the leading foreign engineers. The market in the United States for foreign built cars is slowly passing. Today the vast majority of the Americans are forsaking the European cars and turning~to home-made products. Patriotism alone is not responsible for this, as when, an expensive car is bought it is purchased for value, and the business' man has been convinced that such value is built into the Lincoln. ' i
