ROUNDING ROUND THEATERS With WALTER D. KICK MAN D"”1 USE will be here under the direction of Ona B. Talbot, on March 29, for one performance at the Murat. I have never written a line to boost box office receipts and I do not want these few words to be taken in that light. It took lots of nerve for Mrs. Talbot to guarantee SIO,OOO to get the great Italian woman here. Civic organizations of other cities nearly broke their necks to get Duse. Mrs. Talbot wanted Indianapolis to be included in Duse's visiting list. She has taken the plunge. Duse is booked. Indianapolis alone will not support Duse, as it will require many out-of-town visitors to help up givs her the necessary reception. It is squarely up to Indianapolis as well as other Indiana citizens to see l that Duse plays to standing room ; only. Mrs. Talbot is bring the most, commanding figure of a generation to \ rndianapolis. AVe are going to have , the best. Will we support it? I know ' that the seat scale from $3 to $6 is a 1 stiff affair, but it is necessary for Mrs. Talbot to charge this in order to break even. -!- -!- -!* Tt takes nerve on the part of movie I theater owners to present what is ; known as “class” pictures or those appealing to a limited number of pa Aons. “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is a class picture. Tt is also one of the best produced and acted dramatic productions which has ever leached the screen. The fact remains that this picture did not do the business that its merit deserved at the Circle. •I- -I- T Although it is not definitely announced, it is known that plans are J underway to present stock at the local B. F. Keith Theater after the regulating time vaudeville season opens. Stock opens at the Lincoln Square on Sunday, Feb. 24. The Grand Players ! will get underway at English’s on I about April 20. Walter Vonnegut and I Mrs. Talbot will open their company j at the Murat on May 5. -II understand that when Eddie Leon- i ard does his last step at Keith's Sun- j day night that he will have the honor j of breaking all box office records at j this house this seasou. He deserves i the honor. He is a great showman, j He goes to Pittsburgh. “White Sister” Booked Here Wouid you like to see Rome, the city of the seven eternal hills? Would you like to visit Mt. Vesuvius, Italy’s death-belching volcano? Would you like to enjoy the charm of Sorrenton. the jewel of Italy’s north —Naples, with its bay of blue—ancient Tivoli, the town of narrow, torturous streets? You don't have to visit Italy to see these natural grandeurs. They form the setting for Lillian Gish’s new picture, “The White Sistpr,” which opens a week’s engagement at English’s Sunday night, Feb. 24. “The White Sister” was chosen as the first film to be reproduced entirely overseas. The cast Includes Lillian Gish, Ronald Coleman, Gail Kane, J. Barney Sherry, Charles Lane, Juliette La Yiolette, Sig Serena, Alfredo Bertone and many others.
