WALSH REFUSES PLEA TO ENTER DEMOCRATIC RACE Thanks Friends for Honor, but Sticks to Oil Leases, By LAWRENCE MARTIN United yetcs Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, Feb. 16.—Presidential politics will not be allowed to hamper the Teapot Dome inquiry, Senator Walsh served notice today upon his friends. Expressing his opinions of the offers of Georgia and Nebraska Democrats who offered to circulate his name in those States as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President, Walsh firmly declined the offer. His views were made known in a letter to the Nebraska Democratic Club. This missive, he said today, expresses his position. It follows: 4“i thank you very kindly for the honor you have offered in consideration of any service I have been able to render my country as a member of the Senate public lands committee investigating the naval reserve leases, but I take it your motive is more to honor me than to set forward my name as a presidential candidate. “I am obliged to decline your offer to circulate my name in petitions." Walsh feels to have himself put forward as a candidate would cause a reflection, in the minds of many, on the singleness of his purpose In the Teapot Dome inquiry- Some of the influences trying to hush the investigation or to discredit it, would point to Walsh’s candidacy, If he permitted it to continue, as an evidence he was simply playing politics, Walsh feels. Reverting Generosity By Oscar Schmidt When you help others you help yourself. He who deposits his money in a Savings and Loan Association is an animated proof of the truth of this theory. 110 is helping others by loaning them his money to help them realize their ambition to own a home and he Is helping himself by receiving the moo' gentr'u3 rate of dividend compatible with the absolute safety of the plan. This modo' of saving is the most thoroughly unselfish and cooperative of any savings plan yet discovered—its immense growth and increase in 1 opularity year by year is proof of the excellence of its ideals and their practical administration.
